PARLIAMENT APPROVES CYNTHIA MORRISON AS GENDER MINISTER

Parliament has unanimously approved the Member of Parliament for Agona West, Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection. 
Madam Morrison replaces Hon. Otiko Afisah Djaba who was reshuffled by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo a few months ago.

The new Gender Minister’s approval follows her successful vetting on Friday October 26, 2018 by the Appointment Committee of Parliament.

Both the Majority and Minority in Parliament sang praises of Madam Cynthia Morrison for her eloquence, confidence and the vision she outlined during the vetting. 
Parliament also approved the former Deputy Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah as substantive Information Minister.


Former Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Evans Opoku Bobie was also approved as substantive Regional Minister, former Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy, Paulina Abayage is now confirmed as Upper East Regional Minister and two other Deputy Ministers have also been approved by the House.


The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Hon Haruna Iddrisu charged the new Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Cynthia Morrison to pay special attention to GSFP and LEAP to ensure those social intervention programmes were improved. 


He urged her to come out with innovative approach to prevent the usual delay in the payment of GSFP caterers so that the quality of meal for the beneficiary pupils was not compromised. 


The Tourism and Creative Arts Minister, Catherine Aferku said she had absolute confidence in Cynthia Morrison to win the fight against social exclusion, gender inequality, violence against women and abuse of children among others. 
She appealed to the Gender Minister to ensure GSFP was expanded to cover all deprived pupils across Ghana. 

The Majority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah tasked the Minister to ensure more women representation in Parliament. He said Ghana’s parliament places 143rd among the countries with the lowest women parliamentarians.
