The Accra Sports Stadium is now ready for the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) which will be hosted by Ghana. The stadium was under massive renovation works by the Government in preparation for the tournament in Ghana. The Accra Sports Stadium will be officially opened to the Ghanaian sports fund free today Sunday, 11th December 2018 with an international friendly match between the Black Queens of Ghana and the Banyana Banyana of South Africa. There were earlier concerns by CAF as to whether Ghana could meet the deadline for the final assessment of the facilities for a successful tournament. But Ghana's Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah assured CAF officials of the nation's ability to meet the necessary requirement and the deadline. The Cape Coast and Accra sports stadia are the two venues for the hosting of the tournament which kickstarts next week, November 17 to December 1. Ghana will start the campaign against Algeria in the opening match of the competition on Saturday, November 17 at the Accra Stadium.
