It is not fair to ask me to resign - Roads Minister

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta has described as unfair, calls on him to resign from office.

Speaking on a local radio station in Accra at the weekend, he stated that he has been working around the clock.

His comments came after presidential aspirant, Professor Joshua Alabi argued that the minister has been slow in his reaction to deaths on the Madina-Adentan highway.

Amoako-Atta however stated that such calls were borne out of malice. Conceding that he could have done more, he indicated that the amount of money owed the contractor was such that he needed time to mobilise.

This notwithstanding, Hon. Amoako- Atta said his fate is in the hands of President Akufo-Addo who appointed him.

“I didn’t appoint myself so if in the view of the president he thinks I should resign, he will decide,” he stated.

As an immediate measure, the Roads Minister said the contract has been awarded to a different contractor to complete the footbridges on time.

Hon. Amoako-Atta appealed for calm, especially in Adenta and its environs as they work to fix the bridge.
