Ofosu-Kwakye bashed for Blaming NPP over Deaths on Adentan Highway

Former Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu continues to be at the receiving end of all manner of bashings after his attack on the Akufo-Addo led Government over the uncompleted footbridges leading to deaths on the Madina-Adentan N4 Highway.

Mr. Kwakye-Ofosu has said that the NPP government could have averted the needless deaths in the Adentan area and on other roads in the country, if it (government) had prioritised recurrent expenditure over capital investment.

According to him, the Akufo-Addo led government is not committed to rolling out infrastructural needs unlike the Mahama-led government.

Speaking with regards to the several lives that have been lost on the Madina-Adenta Highway which sparked a spontaneous protest by residents in the area, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu said government could have prevented the unfortunate incidents if it had prioritized infrastructural projects in the country.

However, his comments have attracted several condemnations from a section of the public especially from the camp of the NPP. A Social Activist based in the United Kingdom, Mr. Eric Amofa has charged Mr. Kwakye-Ofosu to shut up and burry his head in shame since he and the John Dramani Mahama-led Government had the opportunity to rule Ghana for 8 good years. He said that the NDC government which Kwakye-Ofosu was a key figure failed the people of Adentan Municipality after failing to complete the footbridges in 8 years. “If the NDC had prioritized infrastructural projects why are they not able to complete the six footbridges on the Madina-Adenta highway? The NDC continues to lie and do propaganda over every important nation issues. This is not what Ghanaians deserve because Ghanaians are not stupid. The NDC green book captured almost every single road in Ghana as projects executed by John Mahama, but what do we see now. Almost every community is crying for the construction of their roads”. Mr. Eric Amofa also a Financial Consultant said that, Ghanaians and the people of Adentan were not interested in the political blame games but rather lasting solution to their problems, hence “Kwakye-Ofosu and NDC must shup up if they have no solutions to proffer”. He also condemned calls by some top NDCs on the Roads and Highway Minister, Kwasi Amoako-Atta to resign for failing to complete the Adentan footbridges. The UK based Social Activist said that even though the Roads Minister could be blamed for the delay in completing the footbridges, it was highly infantile for anybody to call for his resignation. He said that it was unfair for the NDC or any person to blame the issue on Amoako-Atta or the current Government. Mr. Amofa on the other hand urged the Government and the Roads and Highways Ministry to speed up the work on the footbridges before another life is lost. Meanwhile, the former Deputy Communications Minister has maintained that “the attempts to blame the previous government for the situation that we are in is only serving to infuriate the citizenry the more and that is why you saw that level of anger at Adentan. Surely John Mahama when he was president added to that road to the extent that he could because the last update was given in August of 2016 by Inusah Fuseini who was Roads Minister at the time. He said the road was substantially completed (about 98 percent complete) and the only thing left was the footbridges even then structures have been erected to show we were doing it. We simply run out of time and we left”. Having assumed office it was the duty of the government of the day then to complete it, but if you do not complete it and people complain and they stage demonstrations you need to be sincere and admit that there were some lapses in your approach” He stated.
