The Chances of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to become the next running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) keeps becoming brighter as majority of Ghanaians most especially members of the party continue to back the ethnocentric comment by the former National Women Organiser of the party, Anita De-Soso. A few days ago, former president John Dramani Mahama's campaign team described the Mahama-Zanetor running mate reports as false. A statement from Mr Mahama's Campaign Office signed by spokesperson James Agyenim-Boateng on Wednesday, 7 October 2018, asked the public to disregard the speculations. However, there seems to be an overwhelming endorsement for the daughter of the Former President and Founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings by majority of party faithful to become the running mate of Mr. Mahama or whoever would emerge as flagbearer. WatchGhana.Com can report that the political arithmetic at all levels favour Dr. Zanetor Rawlings than any other especially when the NDC would want to give more preferences to women in Ghana, and also would not want to be tagged as an Akan party. Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has also said she was "willing" to support the NDC in whatever capacity to win the 2020 general elections. WatchGhana.Com can infer that there is high level of apprehension and tension mounting in the NDC, to strike regional balance in its executive structure to placate or conciliate the growing emotions of cynicism among the Voltarians. The Volta Region has inarguably been the lifeblood of the NDC since its inception; and for the party to stage a comeback from opposition without her [Volta Region] involvement would be a huge flaw. A Senior Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr Kwesi Amakye, has tipped Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as a very good candidate to partner Mr John Dramani Mahama as running mate for the 2020. A prominent member of the NDC, Major Osahene Boakye-Djan (Rtd.) has also backed calls for the party to reserve the running mate position for a Voltarian. He says the worse the party could do was to pick an Ewe or GaDangme for a running mate. At the same time, the Volta Regional arm of the NDC is also calling on the party to ensure that a Voltarian becomes the running mate. All the Voltarian candidates who were aspiring to occupy frontline positions in the NDC at the just ended 9th National Delegates Congress held at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra were kicked out by the delegates, sparking an outburst from the defeated National Organiser, Anita De-Soso. Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, an Akan, is now the newly-elected Chairman of the NDC after beating Dan Abodakpi, a Voltarian, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, an Akan, beat his former Deputy, Koku Anyidoho, a Voltarian in the General Secretary race. Sammy Gyamfi, also an Akan, beat Fred Agbenyo, a Voltarian, to become the new National Communication Officer and another Voltarian and only woman for the National Organiser’s contest, Anita De-Soso also lost.
