The Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified 30 underage persons in the Bono East and the Ahafo areas who registered in the just ended limited voter registration exercise to enable them exercise their franchise in the upcoming December 27, 2018 referendum for the creation of six new regions in Ghana.

A Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Director of the EC, Mr Frank Nunoo disclosed this at a stakeholders’ meeting in Sunyani, Brong Ahafo Region.

According to him, the 30 minors were disqualified after a review of the complaints lodged against them proved that they were not up to 18 years old.

Per the electoral law of Ghana, children below 18 years of age are not illegible to register as voters, and it becomes a criminal offense violators.

Meanwhile, the EC has also announced that it will use the colour green to depict a YES vote and colour red to depict a NO vote on the ballot paper in the December 27, 2018 referendum for the creation of six new regions in Ghana.

The six proposed new regions for the referendum are Oti, Bono East, Western North, Ahafo, Savannah and North East regions.
