DCAY NGO reaches out to Children with Disabilities

The effort to reach out to children with disabilities, and incorporating them into the mainstream society has been on the increase recently.

However, having a personal impact on such children has been another thing altogether, but fortunately, the DCAY Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization at Odumase in the Sunyani West District of Brong-Ahafo has stepped in, putting smiles back on the faces of these children with the aim of making children with disability equally important and useful in the society.

In its quest to ensure equity and equality for children with disability, DCAY Foundation reached out to over 20 children with disabilities who due to their situation were being neglected or discriminated against during the Christmas festivities to feast with them and their parents or caretakers.

As a young woman whose heart is so passionate for children with disabilities, Rita Kriba, Founder and CEO of DCAY Foundation, mobilized both children with disability and their parents and caretakers to dine with them in a special way. Rita Kriba used the merry making occasion to advise parents with children with disability to eschew discriminating against them in all aspect of life, since they are equally gifted with special talents which need to be nurtured as any other child in the society. According to Ms Rita Kriba, most parents denied their children with disability the opportunity to have access to formal education, which she described as unfortunate and an abuse of the children’s rights, therefore urging parents to send such children to school and encourage them to achieve their goals. The Founder and CEO of DCAY Foundation acknowledged management and staff of Sekyere Rural Bank, Kwabere Municipal Assembly, and her co-founders, Mr. Mark Acheampong and Moses Adeyo for their support and sharing with her a common dream of helping the less privileged in the society. Parents who attended the occasion were delighted and enlightened after the event, and assured to offer equal opportunity and encouragement with their children with disability.
