Mad rush for Bagbin's Nadowli-Kaleo seat

Information reaching WatchGhana.Com indicates there is an intense struggle among some influential members within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency to step in the shoes of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin.

According to our Upper West Regional Correspondent those NDC gurus have already started campaigning vigorously even at the time the current MP who is also contesting in the party’s 2020 flagbearership race still holds himself as the representative of the people in the law making House.

Mr. Bagbin also the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, is one of the 7 presidential aspirants of the opposition NDC and obviously one of the favourites in the flagbearership contest.

It is not certain as to whether Mr Bagbin will resign as an MP and concentrate on his presidential ambition or not. Though it is rumoured that the longest serving MP will not contest for the NDC constituency primaries, at least eight (8) party members have started moving across the length and breadth of the constituency campaigning for the parliamentary ticket.

These NDC faithfuls have come out already and declared their intentions to become the next parliamentary candidates for the party in 2020, which conduct sharply contradicts the constitution of the NDC.

Mr. Alban Bagbin is contesting the former President, John Dramani Mahama, Ekwow Spio Garbrah, Sylvester Mensah, Goosie Tanoh, Professor Joshua Alab and Alhaji Nurideen Iddrissu.

However, in an unlikely event that Mr. Bagbin loses his bid for the flagbearer race, he would have an uphill task to contest with other aggressive candidates to retain his Nadowli-Kaleo seat.

One of the potential contenders for the Nadowli-Kaleo constituency NDC ticket, Mr. David Banye who confirmed this report, expressed displeasure about how some members of the party are busily campaigning for the position of the parliamentary candidate, even when the incumbent MP has not yet vacated the seat.

Mr. David Banye said he is also interested in the seat but would come out at the appropriate time.
