At least 60 people are feared dead in a fatal accident involving two buses on the Kintampo-Techiman highway in the Bono East region. Close to 40 other passengers are in critical condition.

The accident happened early Friday March 22, 2019 morning between the hours of 1:30 am and 2 am at Ampomakrom.

Reports suggest that some of the bodies are burnt to ashes and some others could not be easily identified.

The buses with registration number GT 3915- 17 VVIP Akai buss loaded from Garu heading towards Kumasi collided with a Grand Bird bus with registration number GT 5694-18 loaded from Accra and heading towards Bolgatanga.

Reports say one of the bus gut fire after the collision resulting in the burning of some of the victims.

"None of the drivers has survived the accident" Kintampo Municipal Fire Commander (DO3) Mr. Ankomah Twene has stated.
According to eyewitness account, the driver of the VVIP bus loaded from Garu heading towards Kumasi, who has been burnt to death was dozing, however, some of the passengers alerted him to park off but he insisted to move on hence the cause of the accident. At the moment the police and fire service have counted 60 persons dead (young and old) but unconfirmed by medical experts. Others in critical condition have been transported to Jema, Kintampo and Techiman hospitals for emergency treatment.
