Meet the woman who stole one year old Takoradi boy

The Woman who stole the one year old baby boy, Francis Mawusi Ahiabenu at the Takoradi market circle on Friday March 22, 2019 has been arrested by the SWAT team of the Ghana Police Service.

The team found the boy with the suspect and a man believed to be her Togolese husband and accomplice at Effiakuma Zongo on Monday night around 11pm. The suspects are in the custody of the Police for interrogations but the baby has since been sent to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical examination.

The personnel of the Ghana Police Service in Takoradi and its environs and the Western Region in general are already on high alert following the rampant cases of kidnapping and stealing of children in recent months.

It would be recalled that on last Friday, the suspected baby thief who was dressed in a long dress (Hijab) with a veil covering her face was alleged to have pretended to be shopping in the market and engaged the victim’s mother, Nana Akosua, in a hearty conversation to the extent that the two started speaking local dialect Ewe.
The yet to be named suspect requested to assist in holding the baby to relieve the mother so she could freely serve her customers better.

The suspect then took the one year old boy and his siblings to a nearby pastries shop and bought them some, and later returned the siblings leaving the one year old boy with the pastries seller.

The suspect then promised to return the boy but subsequently bolted away with the boy without the mother noticing.
Later, the victim’s mother, realising their absence at the pastries shop, raised an alarm but it was too late to trace the whereabouts of her baby.

The frustrated mother began searching for her baby but could only get footage of her missing baby and the suspect from some banks whose CCTV captured them.

Nana Akosua has spent her every day since Friday at church, praying for the return of her son. The Redeem Christian church became her second home, as she hoped and prayed for a miraculous return of her one-year-old boy.

The family of the missing boy confirmed to WatchGhana.Com the Police had informed them about the return of the baby and the arrest of the suspects. They however declined further comments insisting they want to meet the Police for briefing before going public.
