Top NPP women endorse Deputy MASLOC CEO as next MP for Yendi

Some prominent female politicians and other influential women in the Northern Region have declared full support for the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) of MASLOC, Haji Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah as she laces her boots to contest as the first female Member of Parliament for the Yendi Constituency in 2020.

Hajia Abibata, a famous New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart in Yendi is seeking to replace the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani who has declared his intention not to contest in the next parliamentary election.

At the first ever Mother’s Day celebration organized by Hajia Abibata at the Yendi Community Centre to honour some 200 mothers for their contribution to families and society, speaker after speaker could not hide their acceptance and endorsement for the Aspiring parliamentary candidate.

The speakers gave Hajia Abibata and her campaign team thumbs up for the decent, civilized and matured manner they have conducted themselves so far on social media and for also concentrating on addressing issues rather than attacking personalities.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Savelugu-Nanton, Hajia Hajia Ayishetu Seidu described as unacceptable for Ghana’s parliament to have only one female parliamentarian (Hajia Alima Mahama) out of about 31 seats in the north.

According to her, the time had come for Northern Ghana to recognize women as capable people who can handle any task as equal as their male counterparts or better than the men. Hajia Ayishetu Seidu who disabused the protracted notion in region that politics is a preserve for men, said she would rally all the support for Hajia Abibata and any other woman coming out to contest as MP or Assembly member.

The Wife of the Northern Regional Minister, Hajia Alima Saeed, Hajia Sauda Saeed, Deputy National Women Organizer of the NPP, Hajia Rahinatu Aziz, Northern Regional Women Organizer of NPP and Madam Felicia Tetteh, Regional 2nd Vice Chairperson of NPP among others charged the people of Yendi to come all out to support Hajia Abibata for more development in the area.

They also charged the people in the region to desist from intimidating and calling noble and courageous women who come into politics with all sort of names.

The highly fired up Northern Regional 2nd Vice Chairperson of NPP, Madam Felicia Tetteh questioned why women who constitute about 52% of Ghana’s population should continue to suffer discrimination, marginalization and different forms of abuse in their quest to ascend to higher national positions.

“As women we must support each other so that we can be part of the key decision makers of our country. In all the three regions in the North we only have one female MP which is a shame. Don’t we have competent women? We are more than competent to take leadership roles and we are more comfortable in leadership. I am a woman and I support my own because I will feel more comfortable to approach her”.

Urging the polling station executives [women delegates] to support Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah to win the NPP’s parliamentary primaries and ultimately become the next MP for Yendi, Madam Felicia Tetteh who is also aspiring for the Sagnarigu NPP’s ticket in 2020, pledged her unflinching support for the woman. Indicating that she had no problem with any other aspirant in Yendi NPP race.

Meanwhile, the Deputy CEO of MASLOC, Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah during the Mother’s Day celebration on May 12, 2019 honoured some 200 mothers in the Yendi Constituency with special gifts.
