Kumasi: Two serial armed robbers arrested

Police in the Ashanti region have arrested two armed robbers who have been terrorising residents of Apire, Heman, Santasi, Patase and its surrounding areas in the Kumasi metropolis.

They are Sampson Amoako Addai aka Kwame Odame, 23, unemployed; and Atakora Amaniampon, 25, Shoe Maker.
Their accomplices, Kojo aka Papa and Emmanuel are currently at large.

Deputy Regional Police Commander, DCOP Fred Adu Anim, told the media at a press briefing that the suspects have been embarking on series of residential robberies in the aforementioned areas in the Kumasi Metropolis at a gunpoint.
He said their modus of operandi is that they cut the burglars prove of the windows of their victims to gain access into their rooms and tie the victims up and rob them of their personal effects, sums of money, mobile phones and take their wedding rings of the fingers of their victims.

On Thursday, May 2, 2019, he said the two suspects and their accomplices currently on the run in one of their robbery attacks, armed with a locally made pistols and machete went to a boutique near the police training school at Patase, and attacked the owner of the boutique and two sale representatives and robbed them a cash sum of GH¢3,750, mobile phones and other men's ware which were displayed in the boutique for sale.

Mr Fred Adu Anim, said the suspects later inflicted a machete wounds on one of the victims before escaped in a waiting opel astra taxi driven by one of the suspects, name only given as driver, a resident of Bantama in Kumasi.

He said two suspects, currently at the police custody have admitted the crime in their respective caution statements, and have led the police to retrieve some of the items robbed.
