The Volta Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has banned campaign activities by Members of Parliament (MP) aspirants and their agents ahead of the opening of nominations for parliamentary primaries in the various constituencies. A release signed by Mr James Gunu, the Regional Secretary of the Party, said REC had “observed that activities of some parliamentary aspirants were resulting in disaffection, disunity and lack of Party cohesion, hence the decisionâ€. It said the Party would promptly take the necessary disciplinary actions against members who disregarded the directive. “Potential aspirants and their agents are, hereby, cautioned to halt all campaign activities till nominations are opened. The Party will not hesitate in taking disciplinary actions against any member who flouts these directives,†the release said. It said in line with Article 41 of the Party’s Constitution, all aspirants would be granted equal opportunities for campaigning when nominations were opened. The release said REC had directed all Constituency Executive Committees (CECs) to proceed with branch adoptions, ward/zonal coordinators elections, and grassroot party mobilisations. It said the CECs had also been asked to concentrate on the forthcoming limited voter registration exercise by the Electoral Commission and other activities towards helping the NDC win back power in 2020.Source: GNA
