The Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, Dr. Mustapha Abdul Hamid has assured that the Government would systematically transform all the over 1,080 zongo communities and make life more meaningful for the people.

He assured the chiefs and people of the Zongo communities of physical manifestation of the transformation agenda Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo promised them soon.

According to the Minister, the Government has done very efficient and adequate consultations with all the key stakeholders, identified and analysed the problems and expectations of the people and was now solving them.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews at the Independence Square on Wednesday during the final Eid prayers, Dr. Hamid said all the over 1,080 zongo communities in Ghana have their peculiar challenges and solutions are being offered.

“The Zongo areas have been neglected for several decades and their problems have compounded for far too long, so it is not possible for anyone to transform the Zongos in just two years. But I can say for a fact that so much work has been done or being done, and very soon Ghanaians will begin to see the transformation we are talking about. We are serious about this zongo development initiative and we shall get it done”.

Already, some significant infrastructural projects are being undertaken in some zongo communities spearheaded by the Zongo Ministry.

Dr. Mustapha Hamid therefore called on the leadership and members of the zongo areas to support the Government to succeed in that vision.
