PNC's Bernard Mornah urges unwavering national support for Black Stars

While some Ghanaians are busy predicting doom for the senior national team, the Black Stars, Chairman of the Peoples' National Convention (PNC), Bernard Ambataayela Mornah is confident that the team will bring glory to the nation.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Mr. Mornah bemoaned the negative comments from a section of the populace especially those with political connotations.

He said, "a section of our society is also wishing bad for the team out of their political affiliation and I must say this is out of place".

He warned that such actions are regrettable and said, "any time there is a change in government the same wishes will be expressed by opposing members".

Mr. Mornah also advised against the sending of only ruling party members to support the team as such actions are not good.

Below is the full statement he issued. We Must Support Black Stars to succeed The past few days has seen mixed comments from Ghanaians regarding the chances of the National Team Black Stars at the ongoing Nations' Cup in Egypt. Though everyone of us has a right to their opinions, I think some comments are made out of sheer hatred or dislike for some persons in the team's setup in the competition. A section of our society are also wishing bad for the team out of their political affiliation and I must say this is out of place. If we continue on this tangent of, "my party is not in power so a win for the team means political capital for the party in power", we will live to regret it one day. Also we desist from selecting persons only affiliated to the NPP to show solidarity at Egypt. This is so because anytime there is a change in government , the same wishes will be carried on by the opposition and that goes to hurt the country's reputation in the football world. That said, I have strong confidence in the team to bring home the ultimate. People may doubt the strength of the team led by Dede Ayew who in 2009, exactly 10 years ago led the Black Satellites to win their first world title coincidentally in Egypt, but I have strong faith that they will shock, Africa and the world. I will encourage the team to continue to work as a unit and bring home the trophy as history is on their side. BERNARD MORNAH.
