The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah has been nominated for the Top 100 Most Influential Personalities (The 100 MIPs) from the Northern Ghana.

Rudder Communications (RudCom), a Ghanaian-based media consultancy firm in collaboration with SavannahNewsOnline.Com has compiled names of 200 high-profile personalities from different professional, career and social backgrounds to compete for the top 100 positions through public scrutiny and voting.

The Deputy MASLOC CEO who is also an aspiring Parliamentary Candidate for Yendi is one of the three women who fell in the ‘politics and governance’ category with the likes of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ex-President John Dramani Mahama, Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu, 2nd Deputy Speaker Alban Bagbin and Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu among others.

Hajia Abibata who had earlier on received the Global Female Leadership Impact Award, inducted into the Global Women Leaders Hall of Fame (GWLHOF) and also named among the Top 100 Most Influential Women Leaders in Emerging Economies at the 5th edition of the South America-Africa-Middle East-Asia Women Summit (SAMEAWS) 2017, organised by the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (CELD) at the Shangri-La Hotel in Dubai, is highly tipped to be recognized as one of the top 100 most influential personalities in Northern Ghana.

She is by far one individual who has impacted many vulnerable lives in the region and most especially Yendi Constituency where she is on record to have supported over 814 youth with employment in government agencies and departments. She has also empowered some youth and women groups as well as some men with startup capitals to venture into small and medium scale businesses among others.

According to the Executive Director of Rudder Communications (RudCom), Mr. Joseph Ziem, the names of all the 200 nominees would be published on various social media and other news media platforms to give the public the opportunity to vote for their favourite 100 most influential personalities out of the figure, 200.

There are 10 categories including Education, Sports, STEM, Agribusiness, Politics & Governance, Health & Wellness, Finance & Entrepreneurship, Media & Law, Arts & Lifestyle as well as Humanitarianism & Diplomacy. Each category has 20 nominees.

He said the Top 100 MIPs project seeks to encourage young people to read about the life stories of successful and influential people from the five region of the north who have served in various national and regional capacity so as to boost their level of confidence and challenge them to pursue their goals in life.

The project, Mr. Ziem said would benefit children in basic and senior high schools as well as those at the tertiary level in the Upper West, Upper East, North East, Northern and Savannah Regions.

“We believe this would go a long way to boost the literacy level amongst young people vis-à-vis reading, comprehension and ability to write effectively. Besides, understanding how each of these profiled personalities made it in life, would also boost the level of confidence of young people and enable them to dream of anything they so desire to achieve in life” he said.

The Executive Director of RudCom hinted that “in order to encourage more young people in the five regions to put in their best efforts in school, we decided to roll out The 100 MIPs”. The biographies and autobiographies of 100 Northern personalities, both home and abroad, would be published later on in the form of a novel or magazine and distributed to all basic and SHSs as well as public libraries across the various regions”.

He therefore called on corporate Ghana and other organisations to support this initiative so that more of the envisaged books, novels or magazines could be published and made available to the schools in the targeted regions.
Meanwhile, the public voting has already started and expected to end on the midnight of July 31st 2019 at 11:59pm. The public are expected to dial *713*714# to vote for their favourite personalities. Any member of the public can vote as many times as they want for an individual or more nominees.
