As your father—and as Chief Inspector of the Ghana Police Service, I meet many people every day, but none brighten my world the way you do. You are intelligent, respectful, caring, and full of promise, and I am endlessly proud of the young lady you are becoming at Early Rise Model School.

May God guide your steps, fill your heart with joy, and surround you with favour in everything you do. Continue to shine, continue to dream, and continue to make us proud. Daddy loves you deeply, and I will always be your strongest supporter.

Enjoy your special day, my angel.

In an interview with Radio Univers, she told Campus Express that the organisers of the programme did not follow the right procedure while submitting their proposal for the event.

"It is not true there was approval for the artiste night (Reunion Rave) for TF. Normally, what happens is that if any event is going to be organized in any hall a request for approval is sent to my Office (Dean's Office) with an outline of the program they intend to organise. What they said they were going to do on Saturday was Karaoke Night and so we gave approval. As far as I am concerned there is a big difference between a Karaoke Night and Artiste Night," she noted.

According to the Dean, the authorities needed prior notice of the nature of the event to help in providing adequate security.

"The University has no issues with Shatta Wale. The University doesn't have anything to do with Shatta Wale. Limann Hall sent a letter requesting approval for their programs including Artist Night and I forwarded it to PRO VC because of the ban on public gatherings and the final approval comes from him. I didn't even know who was on the bill to perform until I later saw their flyers and it was Stonebwoy so I called the President (of the Hall) to assure me of the security. Their letter had to go to the Legon Police District Command and I also asked them to get extra security," Professor Rosina said.

She further noted that "when you are having an artiste night, it comes with a lot of implications: Security and others. So we need to ensure there is enough security and that is why you need approval from the University Authority. Mind you there is still a ban on students gathering so you cannot just get up and bring an artiste like Shatta Wale without the adequate and necessary arrangements being made."

Statement from the organisers

Wave Africa, the organisers of the Reunion Rave Artistes Night issued a statement to explain why Shatta Wale did not perform at the Reunion Rave Artiste Night slated for Saturday, June 8, 2024.

The programme organised in collaboration with TF Hostels, generated conversations on socials media after news broke that Shatta Wale was prevented from performing even though he had been billed for show.

According to a press release issued by the agency, they were contacted two months ago by the executives of Jean Topp Nelson Yankah Hall to provide an artiste and organise the event on their behalf.

"The 2 months-long deliberations were concluded and a formal contract was signed on Wednesday, 5th June, 2024," they write.

The statement further indicates that following the contract signing, the Wave Africa team proactively secured and signed a deal with Shatta Wale to perform on the night, and his promotional poster was subsequently released.

However, on Friday, 7th June, 2024, they saw an online communique from the Dean of Students' Office announcing the cancellation of the event.

"We contacted the hall executives, who were responsible for securing the venue as per the contract. They assured us that the issues with the Dean of Students office had been resolved.

Based on the assurances from the hall executives, our team proceeded with the event plans. Additional security measures were arranged with law enforcement agencies to ensure an incident free event," their press statement further indicates.

They explained that on Saturday, 8th June 2024, during their setup and sound check, the "Legon campus security interrupted, saying it's an 'order from above'."

They said a delegation from their team met with the Dean of Students and was informed that the event could proceed but without Shatta Wale's performance, so they adhered.

In a recent interview on E Vibes with Becky, he noted that although Ghana has rich culture, unnecessary competition, has robbed the country off its fortunes.

He highlighted how highlife music, which originated in Ghana, was embraced and popularised by Nigerians, while Ghanaians themselves often criticize and downplay their own heritage.

“Highlife came from Ghana, Nigerians took over it and it went viral. We keep on condemning everything about us. When someone is climbing a coconut tree, we keep on complaining so the coconut is there and nobody can get it. This is our problem. This attitude of ours must change so we can build Ghana and take it to the next level," he said.

He therefore emphasised the need for a change in attitude, encouraging Ghanaians to focus on building each other up rather than tearing each other down.

"Everybody must do their thing, focus on it and not criticise. People used to criticise me because I play on the streets because I was very strong and thought I could carry things. We are not doing well because we like to compete with each other,” he stated.

The E Vibes show strives to evoke memories through the setting of the interview and their rise, the memories they made on their way to the top with the hope that their unique stories will help shape the younger generation.

E Vibes is different from your regular day-to-day interviews. This show is carefully designed to provide some quality time with selected personalities.

Since taking off in November 2020, some of the biggest global icons in music, movies and the political space have been featured on the show by the exciting Becky who simply 'got the Vibes'.

While he admits that artistes need to hone their stagecraft, he also intimates that not every artiste has to perform live on stage.

KOD who as part of a discussion on ‘Mastering the Art of Musical Performance’ on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, cited legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba as an archetype of a great musician who has always had challenges with live performances.

“We should realise that it is not all our musicians that are supposed to be on stage for live performances. You could be an amazing singer in the booth, releasing countless hit tracks in your lifetime but you are probably not meant to be on stage.

Lumba is a great musician. The guy has probably the biggest repertoire in the whole of Ghana but he has never done well on stage before. Lumba has never had a good day on stage," he told the host Kwame Dadzie.

Explaining further he said he lived with Lumba and noticed he wouldn’t get on the road to go run ahead of an event. He wouldn’t go for rehearsals, probably not even sound-check,” he noted.

Daddy Lumba is one of the most celebrated musicians in Ghana with over thirty albums to his credit.

He is known for songs such as 'Obi Ate Meso Bo', 'Sika Asem', 'Mesom Jesus', 'Biribi Gyegye Wo', Aben Waha', 'Yentie Obiaa', among a blizzard of other monster hits.

Afolayan made this announcement at the recent Nigeria International Film and TV Summit (NIFS) held in Cannes, France with various film industry gurus and media personalities in attendance.

This is in tandem with the National Film Authority’s, ‘Shoot in Ghana’ initiative.

The Executive Secretary of Ghana’s National Film Authority, Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante who brokered the deal in France, was at the Summit when the announcement was made.

“This is an important development. The shooting of parts of 'Anikulapo', in Ghana is a good opportunity to revive and enhance the film relationship between Ghana and Nigeria. Both countries stand to gain greatly from collaborating deeply and exploring each other’s markets and strengths,” she said.

Kunle Afolayan is also committed to training; and his film school, KAP Academy, has trained over 10,000 students in Nigeria and other parts of the continent.

His announcement implies that, many Ghanaians, even those outside the film industry will be employed and skills will be transferred during the shoot. 'Anikulapo', is a Netflix original film and television series.

Juliet is encouraging filmmakers around the world to consider Ghana as a shooting location.

Ghana’s shoot in Ghana campaign was launched two years ago and has seen many groundbreaking successes, including the much talked about Super Bowl advert which was shot in the country(Ghana), and many more that haven’t been announced yet.

Jeneral who campaign for New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the previous elections said on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z that although he has received a lot of flak for criticising the party for not delivering on some of their promises, he is unfazed in his quest to speak the truth to power.

“Sometimes I bash them and they ask why I do that. But I feel that we should get to a point in Ghana when we should stop allowing politicians to take us for granted. We should stop that thing about I belong to NDC or NPP so when it is even bad, we should be there. We should speak up.

I learnt something recently on social media about the youth. I am bashing the NPP and they will say because I campaigned for them to assume power, I should keep quiet for us to suffer. It is even better to support and bash at the same time when it is not going when than you support and keep quiet when it is not going on,” he said.

Asked if he would be throwing his support behind the NPP again, he said he would need some time to study their manifestos.

Ntatia who studied Theatre Arts at the School of Performing Arts of the University of Ghana, has carved a niche for himself as one of the topmost comic actors in the country.

He has also featured in a number of films including 'Keteke', 'Kalybos in China', 'Chaskele', 'Mad House', among others.

In recent times, he has added stand-up comedy, an area he had dreaded entering in the past.

In the world of theatre, he has left imprints on the minds of patrons of 'Second Coming of Nkrumah', 'The Leopards Choice', 'Adam in Court', 'Red Light', 'Man in the Dark', 'The Trial', 'Accra We Dey', 'In the Chest of a Woman', 'The Ladder', 'Flows for Sale'.

Accra, had some brilliant performances.

Stonebwoy’s act, has been tipped by music lovers and aficionados as one of the best on the night.

With Elisabeth Efua Sutherland, the great granddaughter of Efua Sutherland as the creative director, Nana Kwame Adu-Gyamfi as technical director, and Kwaku Kwakye handling visual effects, Stonebwoy delivered a top class performance that has gotten rave reviews.

Concept of the performance

To represent Stonebwoy’s origins, the performance started with appellations from an elder from the Volta Region, Christian Kobla Tetey, a member of the Lododo Art Foundation. This foundation, led by Dr. Sarah Dorgbadzi from the University of Ghana, focuses on preserving Ghana’s intangible heritage through storytelling, proverbs, folk songs, and oral histories.

The team collaborated with Thomas Nii Lantey Botchway, founder of the Indigenous Vibes Band, to incorporate traditional drumming, dance, and music. The 30-member cultural troupe, based in Jamestown,

Accra, performed the Sohu dance and Borborbor from the Volta Region.

To emphasize themes of representation, legacy, and hard work, elements of flags and fire were incorporated throughout the performance.

Song Selection

The primary focus was to showcase Stonebwoy’s vocal prowess and highlight his maturity in music and stagecraft. Stonebwoy worked closely with BHIM band leader Acoustic Music and DJ Sedem to perfect the setlist, ensuring the energy progressed seamlessly throughout the performance.

Performance Breakdown

• Intro: The performance opened with a video showcasing life in the Volta Region, accompanied by proverbs spoken in ??? by the elder, and dancers from the cultural troupe displaying regional dance.

Stonebwoy entered the stage with his back to the audience, symbolizing the escape of the Ewe people from Notsé. This historic event, where the Ewe people ingeniously escaped

oppression by breaking through the walls of Notsé, was a powerful representation of resilience and liberation, mirroring Stonebwoy’s own journey and triumphs.

• Manodzi: "Manodzi" symbolizes reigning and staying on top. This was represented by a lion, the King of the Jungle, and the waving of the BHIM flag by a dancer with two flags around Stonebwoy, signifying victory through perseverance.

• Life and Money: This song emphasizes creating good music, enjoying life, and prosperity. Visually, it was represented with images of cowries on the screens, symbolizing historical wealth.

• Your Body: An unreleased song performed as an acoustic duet with a pianist, accompanied by two dancers. The screens displayed a silhouette of a woman's body, creating a captivating visual and highlighting Stonebwoy’s voice.

• Into the Future: The most popular song on the album, performed with vibrant energy and smooth, tropical vibes. Urban dancers led by Zigi elevated the performance, with the band in full swing.

• Apotheke: A fun moment showcasing the longstanding collaboration between Stonebwoy and Zigi. The dancers performed close to Stonebwoy, who joined in the choreography.

• Ekelebe: This song heightened the energy, featuring sharp and aggressive dance movements, fire fans, and the return of flags, symbolizing victory through domination.

• Overlord: The performance concluded with high energy, more flags, and effects. The dancers converged around Stonebwoy, with Zigi draping his jacket over him, establishing him as the Overlord.

The meticulous attention to detail in song selection, running order, visual representations, and choreography ensured that Stonebwoy’s TGMA performance was a tribute to his roots and a celebration of his artistic evolution.

Lil Win was taken into custody by officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Manhyia Divisional Command shortly after being discharged from the hospital.

His arrest is connected to a recent accident involving a vehicle he was driving, which tragically resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy.

The family of the deceased had intensified calls for justice, but police cited ill-health as the reason for the delay in causing his arrest.

Lil Win has been charged with dangerous driving and negligently causing harm.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution requested that the accused makes himself available whenever needed as the investigation continues.

Lil Win’s counsel, Margaret Adjei-Twum, argued for bail, noting that her client suffered injuries, including internal bleeding, and required further treatment.

She assured the court that Lil Win, being a well-known figure, would not evade the judicial process.

Despite the ongoing investigation and the heavy police presence at the court, the judge granted bail and adjourned the case to June 27, 2024.

Meanwhile, sources report that the police have maintained constant communication with the family of the deceased boy.

The announcement was halted and eventually cancelled after a fight broke out between himself and Shatta Wale, leading to their suspension from the award scheme for a year.

Stonebwoy believes he won the award that night and, if confirmed, he would become the only artiste in history to win it three times.

“I have been very hardworking throughout the years. Ever since I won the Ghana Music Artiste of the Year in 2015, I won it again in 2019 but we all saw what happened.

"So I just want to plead with Charterhouse, as honourable as they are to make that they announce the winner, which I am confident that it was Stonebwoy for 2019, and then this in 2024,” the ‘Into the Future’ hitmaker said.

Stonebwoy delivered this plea during his speech after winning the Artiste of the Year at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

He beat stiff competition from five others namely; Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Nacee and Sarkodie to win the award.

In addition to Artiste of the Year, Stonebwoy won five other awards: Best International Collaboration, Best Reggae/Dancehall Artist, Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Dancehall Artiste.

This is Stonebwoy’s second TGMA Artiste of the Year award, his first being in 2015. He is the third artiste in history, besides rapper Sarkodie and the group VIP, to achieve this milestone.

Background

Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale were banned indefinitely from participating in the VGMAs after an altercation between them marred the 2019 edition.

The ‘Activate’ hitmaker was on stage accepting the Reggae/Dancehall artiste award for the fifth time in a row when Shatta Wale attempted to move to the stage.

His reason for going was unknown especially since he moved with some members of the Shatta Movement. He had also been having beefs with Stonebwoy thus his action left people stunned.

A brawl later ensued and Stonebwoy brandished a gun. Shatta Wale later said that he was going to congratulate Stonebwoy on stage when he won the Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year Award.

Meanwhile, following the brawl, the former rivals were also stripped of the awards they won on the night and asked to return the plaques they had been given.

In 2021, the board internally agreed to lift its ban on Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy ahead of the 2021 edition of the show.

However, the two did not submit any work that year. In 2022 Stonebwoy did submit his work and won the Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year.

In 2023, Stonebwoy won Afropop Song of the Year and Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year awards.

The duo delivered an electrifying routine that left both the audience and judges in awe, showcasing their extraordinary talent and expressing their Ghanaian heritage.

Afronita and Abigail performed a medley of popular hits, including Fuse ODG’s “Azonto,” Beyoncé’s “Run The World,” and Toofan’s “Gweta” among others.

Their performance earned them a standing ovation, leaving the crowd excitedly showering them with praise even during the judges' evaluation statements.

“Looking at you makes me happy, you really are a tonic for the spirit. Your individual style of dancing is so unique and beautiful, your musicality is out of this world and your personality really shines through. Love you, love you,” judge Bruno Tonioli told them.

Even the notoriously tough judge Simon Cowell praised Afronita and Abigail, stating, "When you've got it, you’ve got it."

He noted that the Ghanaian dancers left him stumped and, although he was certain who would win the competition a day before, their mesmerizing routine had him questioning his prediction.

Afronita after the competition said she felt blessed to have made it thus far.

She added "This is a big testimony for me, for Abigail, for Ghana and for everyone that supports us. We are so grateful. It's been so emotional...thanks to God and everyone."

She made this statement during an interview with Graphic Showbiz recently.

According to the outspoken actress, she is a good person, and the right man who would win her heart should be sure that he has gotten a good wife.

“I think I have to stop looking for love because I am tired. All the men that come my way are after something else and not real love. They either want to get into your pants or just take pride in the fact that they are dating Efia Odo which does not work for me.

“I dated a couple of guys back then and all didn’t work. I wish I were married with children because that is what I want right now. I understand love and when a man understands me it is very easy for us to roll. I am not a difficult person and I am very submissive when I am in love,” she stressed.

Finding the right partner to settle down with can be a tough experience but it can be extra difficult for celebrities, especially the females, who have to deal with stereotypes and also the motives of the men who come into their lives.
The struggle can see them go through several relationships and that is the current situation actress Efia Odo.

In a previous interview, Eddie Nartey narrated the ordeal he experienced whiles growing and how his father deserted his mother when he found out she was pregnant with the actor.

According to him, his grandmother was kind enough to accept him and cater for his needs. He added that he “never had a relationship” with his father since he was absent in his life.

In a recent interview with Nkonkonsa.com earlier in February, he posited that his father “molested him verbally.”

“My father didn’t accept the responsibility of the pregnancy, so it was more or less it’s not me or it’s my issue. But then my grandmother which is his mother came to accept everything on his behalf because he was the last child and he had senior brothers who had gone to the University and everything, and perhaps he was the stubborn one and he had gone to get a girl pregnant. So, [yo] it’s not me; you get what I’m saying. So, we never had that relationship. I grew up with mum and all of that and I have had terrible experiences with him physically, [you know] things that he told me as a kid and all of that were not pleasant,” he said.

But in a recent post on his social media page, the actor revealed that after 20 years of bad energy between him and his biological father, he has finally reconciled with him. This reunion was on his birthday.

“After over 20 years, myself and the old boy smoked the peace pipe. I’m so at peace with myself. Still in my birthday mood. #Birthday#CelebratingEN#BirthdayMood,” he captioned an image of him standing next to his father.

Last Saturday on UTV's United Showbiz, Kwame A Plus frantically stated that Stonebwoy’s galamsey song titled ‘Greedy Men’ is needless.

The political activist further stated that the youths on the streets are not the ones involved in illegal mining activities but legislators and top government officials.

A Plus opined that the award-winning musician shouldn’t have wasted his resources on the production of the song because there’s no way such leaders will pay attention to it.

Stonebwoy has in turn, unleashed his anger on A Plus for discrediting his work and passing ‘negative’ comments about him.

Stonebwoy has dropped a coded message for A Plus on his Snapchat stories titled “Ventilation”.

According to the musician, he’s winning and that’s all it matters and he will also continue to talk about the rot in the society.

This warning comes as a result of his experience of seven days remand at the Ankaful Medium Prison in the central Region.

In a Facebook post, Shatta Wale shared, he requested that the youth must be very cautious of the lives they live so they don't land in the arms of the police service because the laws in the country are genuine.

Yesterday, November 4th, 2021, Shatta wrote: "Too many young boys dey remand ooo... Becareful ghetto youth!!!!! The law is real #jailman."

From his message to the youth, it could be perceived that the "my level" hitmaker has really learnt his lessons. This shows that going to jail can transform anybody for greatness or regrets.

This is due to the rumors circulating in the media about his composure, style of dressing and genre of music.

The “First Sermon” hitmaker has revealed that he does not smoke nor drink alcoholic beverages as purported by many.

In a short interview with Pulse, Black Sheriff stated emphatically that he does not smoke nor do drugs.

"I don't do drugs and I don't do alcohol. That craft is just for the clout, you feel me. To compliment the song, the attitude and everything. Ibe craft," he stated clearly.

This might be a shocking revelation to his fans. Although drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes are legal in Ghana at a certain age, the rapper deem it fit to do away with those substances.

The title, now known as ‘Nyame Mma’ was broadcast alongside a release date and a cover art ending the hiatus after his 2017 debut Onipa Akoma.

‘Nyame Mma’ which has been in the works for close to 3 years comes with a dark and grainy cover which presents Akan engulfed by 2 women and 11 children.

Known for the dense cultural references in his music, the rapper appears wrapped in a Kente and a staff, connoting his ever-growing interest in Ghanaian culture.

He stands in as the linguist and mouthpiece of the forefathers and to inform the younger generation of their African values and history.

Even though the news comes with no information about the tracklist or features, a tweet by producer Twistedwavex, revealed the rapper in the studio with Ayisi, which many have suspected could be a sign of the singer appearing on the album.

I just pre-ordered Akan's new album Nyame Mma via Aftown, it will be released on August 12 and I cant wait!I have to own a copy of what I listened to in the album previewing last Saturday. #NyameMma pic.twitter.com/NFUjH2Pdft— Yaw Antwi Owusu???????? This time with another sermon, shining some light on the shackles on street life, which may just be the one that seals the deal for the saviour, Blacko.

With ‘First Sermon’ almost hitting a million views on YouTube, Black Sherif has released Part II of the good news.

The sequel did not disappoint. As characteristic of him, he released a snippet of the song which sent fans into a frenzy on social media as they could not wait for the official release of the full piece.

On the just-released ‘Second Sermon’, the Konongo-raised rapper cum songwriter delves deeper to describe the struggles Ghanaian youth are facing at the moment.

Speaking on the rationale behind the song, Blacko said; “This is me sending a message to my people at home (Konongo). I also dedicated this one to my Angel, Sister Mariama (RIP).”

Black Sherif further explained that he just tries to describe “the day-to-day lifestyle of my boys on the streets. It took me so much courage to voice this out, but this is our truth. I don’t speak for only myself, I pray God blesses every young person on the street trying hard to make ends meet.”

The track whose opening seconds were ushered by Bigg Homie Flee is dubbed a fusion of trap and highlife.

The Ghanaian Stallion-produced record is a timely one as it has been much-anticipated, as made evident by social media.

“I have found the light, Jesus Christ is the way, truth, and light and if you find him and entrust everything to him, things will fall in the right place,” she said.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based radio, Okay FM, Wendy said she had found her true self and was on a total rebranding in terms of belief, music, brand, and image.

According to her, she discovered her true self after undergoing personal problems including spiritual warfare in the last couple of years.

“I have now redeemed myself, you know the relationship with God has so many levels, I am not the closest to God, but I am in a level where I trust God entirely as He has shown me his grace and power,” she said.

Though she didn’t provide details of the exact challenges she encountered, Wendy disclosed she has been through a lot, and in that period, was introduced to Jesus Christ who calmed her storms.

With her new ‘child-of-God’ identity, the ‘Masakra’ hitmaker said she had taken it upon herself to reconcile other children of God to the father.

She said her new mandate was to alert mankind that salvation and comfort await them, only if they ignore the dark forces governing the earth and run into the temple of the Most-High.

On how to achieve that feat, Wendy said she has dedicated her social media pages to preaching to her over five million followers.

“My platform is not just for my music. I have 2.3 million followers on Instagram, 1.6 million on Facebook, and 1 million on Twitter. I have started preaching on my social media pages. When I came back from Germany, I wasn’t a believer, but now, I am closer to God, and I want to bring my fans to Him too,” she said.

God is bigger than we think Our human minds can’t measure how good God is It is my duty to reconcile people to him through the platform he has given me Please give your life to Christ and your life will change forever Jesus is real And I have met him #Believe— Wendy Shay (@wendyshaygh) June 29, 2021

Her repentance comes at a time when Ghanaians are still coming to terms with actress Moesha Boduong’s newfound faith in God.

Moesha announced weeks ago that she has parted ways with her former lifestyle, even to the point of selling off all property she acquired through shady dealings.

This expansion has given room to a lot more new artistes and sometimes old talents to also shine in the industry.

Years ago, Ghana had a variety of artistes ruling the industry. From Highlife to burger highlife to contemporary highlife moving onto hiplife, reggae/dancehall and even Afrobeats. We had it all.

Lee Doudu, George Darko, Charles Amoah, Amakye Dede, Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba, Nana Acheampong, General Marcus, Reggie Rockstone, Lord Kenya, Obrafour, Ofori Amponsah Castro, Daasebere Gyamena, VIP, BUKBAK and many others. We really did have it all.

Music in the last decade

But as years went by, the music tastes expanded so much one would think breaking into the industry would have been an easy feat. The last decade saw Ghana hold on tightly to a number artistes and closing off many others.

With a demand for a certain music style, it became tough for some young talents to break into the industry and subsequently make a name for themselves. This was mainly because we had a handful of artistes reigning the industry while others were given the back seat.

So, becoming huge household names when equally brilliant talented acts who were already in the industry were not hailed as much as the selected few was a difficult ride.

The era of the Ss

Not to say the selected were not talented. Quite the opposite, actually. In the past decade, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Samini and Shatta Wale captured the hearts of many Ghanaians with their talents and their willingness to explore genres of music beyond the ones they are known for.

Their music transcended the borders of Ghana earning them, and the country, some international accolades, features and awards including the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) and the BET Awards.

With catalogues like ‘Necessary Evil’ (released in 2014 by Stonebwoy), ‘Mary’ (released in 2015 by Sarkodie), ‘Untamed’ (released in 2018 by Samini), ‘After the Storm’ (released in 2016 by Shatta Wale) it is easy to understand why people loved and continue to love these acts as much as they did.

They have immense talents and still to this day continue to explore their artistry even better. This has fans increasingly falling more and more in love with them. Every up and coming artistes in that decade wanted to fall into a certain category of the Ss.

Who wouldn’t want to be when you could have a concert designed for you yearly. Either you are like them or beat them to succeed in the industry. This at the time was not an easy job to do – they set the bar really high.

Inflow of foreign music

But, with a narrowed view of Ghanaian music came a narrow catalogue of Ghanaian acts and talents. Thus, people found themselves listening to a lot more foreign music especially from Nigeria and the US.

Though the Ss were and still are good, there were a few other acts that had a unique touch in the industry.

They may not have had huge fan bases as the Ss but artistes like Efya, Castro, MzVee, R2Bees, M.anifest, Kwabena Kwabena E.L, VVIP, Joey B, Pappy Kojo, Kaakie, Edem and a few others treated Ghanaians to good music.

These artistes were treasured by the fans because they brought the diversity needed, however little, in Rap, Hiplife, Hiphop, Dancehall and Highlife that people were calling for.

Luckily, the power and influence they held, added to that of the Ss, kept Ghana music afloat so it would not drown in the many foreign music that had taken over the airwaves.

The era of the Ks

For a long while, even though some Ghanaians called out the lack of diversity in the industry, music lovers had their hooks in the Ss and the few others – and they seemed unwilling to let go.

Fortunately, with a cry for help came the need to open up and soften hearts to new talents. Thus, one lucky breakthrough brought a flood of talents that seemed to open the door of the industry for the much-needed growth and diversity.

Some new artistes started to break the status quo. They were tagged as the Four Ks in a 2019 article. In that article, the writer stated that these young men, Kuami Eugene, KiDi, King Promise and Kwesi Arthur, in barely two years after their names popped up, broke through the tight Ghana Music Industry and made their way to the forefront.

CEO of 3Music Networks, Sadiq Abdulai Abu, once said this about the artistes on Hitz FM: “Ghanaians wanted to see more than just a few acts dominate. They wanted a future for the Ghanaian music, so record labels worked hard to give them these talents.”

In the article published in February 2019, the young artistes were said to have a Midas touch. To be honest, that Midas characteristic can be seen a lot more now than before.

Check out songs they have released – Sika (King Promise), Say Cheese (KiDi), Show Body (Kuami Eugene) and Nobody (Kwesi Arthur) and ones they have been featured in like No Dulling, Blessing, Jealous and Door. BBC, in January 2021, also named KiDi as one of the 10 artistes in Africa people need to look out for.

The acceptance

It seems with the popularity of these four musicians came the eye opening decision to welcome as many artistes as possible to the industry. The young artistes who had wanted to make it into the industry, now had the chance to make it or say goodbye to the dream of being an artiste.

During the reign of the Ks, Ghana witnessed many other growths. The late Ebony became a sensation in Reggae/Dancehall, Medikal and Strongman’s 2019 beef propelled their growth and Wendy Shay took fans on a ride the moment she entered the industry.

Many of them have come a long way. Kelvyn Boy has proven he does not only have the talent but can also bring some great competition into the Reggae/Dancehall and Afrobeat genres which was previously owned by three of the Ss – Samini, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.

His T.I.M.E EP was a gateway to showing fans how he can take advantage of Highlife by infusing it into his songs to create distinct yet familiar Afrobeats tunes.

Akwaboah may not be new in the industry, however, music lovers are giving him more attention now. Many people are recognising he is an asset who has contributed to keeping Highlife music alive.

Akwaboah is the greatest highlife songwriter after Kojo Antwi , quality highlife tunes ankasa— Rakeeeeeem (@faviolli) June 27, 2021

Highly Spiritual acts Mr Drew and Krymi have proved they are a duo ready to entertain people as long as they want. Fameye has gotten fans wrapped around his fingers with every new release. And more recently, the Kumerica craze has unearthed a lot more talents that are proving Ghana has the ability to sweep the world off its feet with our own style of music.

More importantly many Ghanaians have taken the initiative in the past few years to explore music, mostly ones they can resonate with on a deeper and personal level.

Through such exploits music lovers have also embraced Ko-Jo Cue, Worlasi, Amaarae, Cina Soul, A.I, Yaayaa, Adoma, FRA!, Pure Akan and others.

Many of these artistes have dabbled in alternative music that, even though may not be as popular as other sounds, captures the heart of many music lovers.

To date, people praise Ko-Jo Cue for his outstanding ‘For My Brothers’ album that makes you rethink your life choices, not in a way that condemns but consoles, advises and leaves you with the thought; ‘I am not alone.’

A year or two ago I would have said Worlasi is underrated but today, I say Ghanaian music lovers are gradually realizing he is a gem that needs to be treasured – and his 2019 album Worla (The Man and The God) only scratches the surface of his geniusness.

Adoma’s vocals and her jazzy style is not music that has gained mainstream attention yet. But, the moment her music hits the ears it falsettos and vibrato sucks you in. So, it’s only a matter of time.

If you want vocals and music that make love to your ears then you may not want to miss you Amaarae’s ‘The Angel You Don’t Know’ album.

With this and many more making its way into the industry in the last five years, Ghanaians have seen musicians flood the industry more than they did in the last decade.

What it means

Some years ago, industry persons began an agenda to get radio stations to play 90% Ghanaian songs and 10% foreign. They argued that foreign songs had dominated the airwaves and their influence was having a negative impact on the industry.

Although the campaign was not successful all through and through, the campaign till this day continues to persist. However, after some observations, it is clear that Ghana radio stations are yet to institute the 90%-10% local content policy as advocated, but, there are a lot more Ghanaian songs on the airwaves than before.

This, I believe, can be attributed to the influx of new artistes. Music industries across the world thrive on fresh blood and compelling new content. New artistes means new content and new content often translates to more airplay. Now, there are a lot more songs in circulation than when just a few artistes were at the forefront and enjoyed massive rotation ahead of others.

The presence this many artistes has widened the music catalogues of music lovers across the country. Music lovers aren’t interested only in what a huge artiste is doing anymore, they are also looking out for the other artistes.

If people love what an artiste does, there is an agenda to push them and their craft. An example is Kofi Jamar, Black Sheriff, Asaka Boys and Gyakie, who now has a fan base in the nearly impenetrable Nigeria music market, even though she has not been in the industry as long as others.

Also, young artistes like Kwesi Arthur (nominated for BET in 2018), Amaarae (selected as BET’s ‘Amplified International’ Artiste of the Month: February), Yaw Tog (selected as BET’s ‘Amplified International’ Artiste of the Month: April), KiDi (written about on BBC; Grammy winner Wyclef calls him a triple threat; has a feature with Teddy Riley) and others have gained recognition outside Ghana’s borders in the few years they have been in the industry.

These artistes have shown with their influences in Ghanaian music, they can join the Ss and other legends to catapult Ghanaian music to the continent and beyond.

Some people might be concerned that the increasing number of artistes could cause a fall in standards. However, music consumers have in many ways proved to be gatekeepers for quality content. It might not always be the case that only industry persons have the chance to check and determine quality.

The last few years have proved that Ghana can have as many artistes as it wants and there will still be space for more. This article scraps the surface of the artistes that are pushing through in the industry. Join me in subsequent writings where I highlight some artistes worth listening to.

According to him, his recent award is a clear indication that he is a good song writer contrary to claims by some industry players who believe that he (Kinaata) is overrated. One of such persons is veteran musician Rex Omar who excluded the ‘Things fall apart’ hit maker from his top five song writers claiming that he was not that good a writer.

Rex Omar in an interview on an Accra-based Zylophone FM station said that the Takoradi based artiste can be described as a good lyricist but not a good songwriter.

But speaking to JoyNews’ Ibrahim Ben Baako at the just ended Kinaata said;

“I believe in myself, I know myself so this is for you people so you can believe that Kofi can write songs or Kofi has good contents. For me I know who I am, I know I can write but this is just for you people to believe that I can write.”

Reacting to whether or not he expected to win the songwriter category for the fourth time he said the award was a done deal for him because he puts in extra efforts in the songs he releases.

Kofi Kinaata beat competition from Diana Hamilton, Adina, Joe Mettle, Abiana and Epixode to win the award with his song ‘Behind The Scenes’.

He added that the stress in promoting songs here in Ghana forces him to put together great pieces so his song can promote itself.

“Promotion in Ghana is very tough, a lot is involved and so sometimes when I’m writing a song I make sure I do stuffs that wouldn’t be hard to promote, one that DJ’s would like to play and one that people call FM stations to request, so as to make the work easier,” he said.

“Sometimes you have to follow trend or say certain things before a song can hit. If you can’t do all that you have to make sure you do a good song” he said

He is the first artiste to win the award four times consecutively.

Prince’s comments come on the back of a series of verbal attacks directed at GHAMRO about their inability to rightly distribute royalties on behalf of authors and composers during the Vodafone National Music Summit organised by Charterhouse, organizers of the Ghana music awards.

In an interview with Andy Dosty on the Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, PrinceTsegah explained that in Ghana, most people do not understand copyright, hence, getting the allocated money is almost impossible.

“The royalties system is not too easy to put up, the blank levy isn’t working out, because nobody is using CDs any longer, nobody is using cassette and the importation is minimal or absent, now we are into pen drives, phones and hard disc etc., and the law hasn’t been amended to include those, so those monies we are not getting,” he noted Thursday.

Musicians have for some time now mounted pressure on leaders of GHAMRO to give them their royalties as some believe that they make more money but receive less from the organization.

Others have also asked that the leadership steps aside so people with the know-how to take up their roles and make the system work.

He also clarified the misconception about managers receiving royalties from GHAMRO by a section of musicians.

He further explained that managers are not to be paid by GHAMRO but by the amount signed on contract between the artiste and the managers.

“GHAMRO deals with right owners, so if you are a publisher, you are a composer, and you are a performer, but it doesn’t extend to management,” he added.

Prince urged musicians to put in more effort to get their music out there, so as to gain publicity and trust the royalties to do its bit from there.

Now that I reflect on it, it might just be a classic-in-waiting.

I tweeted that day about how I nearly forgot about this melody which underpinned most of my time back in senior high school, merely because I saw myself in the lyrics.

I almost forgot how special this song feels. Those were some Good mornings. @PonoBiom's second verse is golden plus Efya's vocals.. Gad!????Yaa Pono Feat. @EFYA_Nokturnal - Good Morninghttps://t.co/WZhJFZ1UlH— Kenneth .A. Darko (@TheKennethDarko) June 16, 2021

Even more profound was the Efya’s vocals that sandwiched Pono’s witty style from both ends to keep the track airtight, just the way we liked it. It led me to wonder which other rap song was bodied by the songstress at that time when she had just found her feet as a solo act, away from the former Irene and Jane group.

“I’m coming through, see my shining…,” that’s the Efya’s lyrics that rang in my head as it signed out Paedae’s Tema Motorway Freestyle. The 2011 masterpiece was key among songs that ran through my mind.

Efya did her magic on there as well, but this time, with one part of the R2Bees crew, Omar Sterling also known as Paedae.

At that point, it hit me how long we had gone without a Paedae album. His most recent album after that was back in 2016, 5 long years ago.

Remember, this was just me deep in my thoughts on a graveyard shift fighting to keep sleep away as much as I could by reminiscing about songs that struck a nerve for me back in the day – don’t ask me why I wasn’t thinking about today’s crop of music, that’s a story for another day.

Sixteen hours later, an announcement had been made and social media had gone crazy.

Same Earth Different Worlds available everywhere 22/06. See you next week pic.twitter.com/nF3tyj5ASM— OMAR ST£RLING (@Paedeezy) June 17, 2021

“Same Earth Different Worlds available everywhere 22/06. See you next week,” Paedae posted on Twitter and I was poised to wait for that ‘next week’.

However, not all music fanatics were as enthused by the development. As far as announcements go, Paedae had earned notoriety in postponements and here’s why.

In August last year, a similar statement which raised the hopes of his fans left them hanging dry after the September deadline passed without even as much as a whistling sound from the R2Bees posterboy.

Same Earth Different Worlds available everywhere 22/06. See you next week pic.twitter.com/nF3tyj5ASM— OMAR ST£RLING (@Paedeezy) June 17, 2021

Same Earth Different Worlds available everywhere 22/06. See you next week pic.twitter.com/nF3tyj5ASM— OMAR ST£RLING (@Paedeezy) June 17, 2021

And so when Omar, known outside music circles as Faisal Hakeem tweeted the release with a definitive date, June 22, fans finally had something to hold him to.

The day came, and Paedae actually dropped the flow! Or the album in this case. He showed us why it was titled Same Earth Different Worlds.

The project has taken the music scene by storm as Paedae’s worldview seems to have evolved over time.

The 20-track album has been his best work yet, I believe. If there’s one thing Omar Sterling is good at, it’s the ability to sell you a packaged version of what you have always known to be true.

You see. Omar Sterling's music's value is in the things he makes you think about. Not necessarily his flow nor his literary skill. I think that's what makes him special because you need to know what exactly to pay attention to before you can enjoy his work.— BRYAN THE MENSAH (@BRYANTHEMENSAH) June 22, 2021

He has a way to this, narrating his experiences to reflect yours by basically putting a mirror to your face.

Omar Sterling does this on Bayla Boys Company, the second track on the project, where he plays on nostalgia about events from back in his youth.

He walks his audience through adventures, mostly risky, and friends which he dabbled in while growing up as a child. Some of these friends are no more but it is clear from his point of view that he wishes the lost ones would be here to appreciate who he has moved on to become.

This song is a personal one with an emotional twist that many hard knock streets kids from predominately low-income areas of Ghana can relate with.

It goes ahead to recount the tragic death of Mugeez’s sister, (Paedae’s cousin) which he says brought untold grief to the family until he learnt from the Quran that innocent souls go to Heaven.

this part was so emotional man ???? rest well Saada #SameEarthDifferentWorlds pic.twitter.com/dhz98usNMd— Festus (@festusmartial) June 22, 2021

He adopts a similar approach on ‘I’m Back’ as if to reflect the listener’s flaws by merely pointing out his own, in a melodic manner.

His skill as communicator by dissemination his message and ideals learnt in life gives him an edge above the others, one of the reasons his audience had the bandwidth to wait for about 5 years for this album to drop.

The lords work! How can new shit sound so classic already ! Congrats ?@Paedeezy? ?????????? ! #SameEarthDifferentWorlds https://t.co/TgGn7Qfsb0— King Promise (@IamKingPromise) June 22, 2021

Consistency is key in order for musicians to stay relevant, especially in Ghana. The audience here moves on pretty quick if you’re not regularly churning out content to keep the insatiable appetites fed.

But, for some reason, Omar Sterling does not play by these rules, and yet makes good numbers once his work is out.

What exactly in Paedae’s projects gives him an uptick in value despite going years without an album? I think it’s the same principle that keeps J. Cole relevant.

Omar Sterling is the J.Cole of Ghana music, disappeared for two years, comes back drops a fire album and goes missing again. That’s real perfection.— STARBOY_MOOMIN (@starboy_moomin) June 21, 2021

Let’s be honest, the Tema-based rapper’s style, coupled with his gestures and mannerisms give off a J. Cole vibe.

He even pays respect to the Dreamville rapper on his track, ‘Dope Emcees’ alongside greats such as Nas and Lord Kenya.

Like Jermaine Cole, Omar Sterling barely tweets, he is barely in the public eye unless he really wants to make a statement, and as we have come to know, makes music outside the trends and sticks to the path.

He seems to aggregate his scarcity conscience-pricking in the system, plays it to his advantage by quantifying and converting that vacuum into a never-ending craving for his type of commodity, just like Cole.

Omar Sterling Is Good But his Style of Rap is Boring ???? That’s de same thing they said about J.Cole and he Speed Up on His New Release And See de Out Come , u can vibe with it anywhere ,, U can listen to #SameEarthDifferentWorld In Your Room only ????— Kofi Sark ? (@kofiwest_gh) June 22, 2021

The closest juxtaposition between the two is clear in the song ‘Could Haves.’ Aside from the confidence to take on an instrumentation that is experimental in Ghana, to say the least, Paedae dare to take on values.

“Embrace the struggle, ignore the fame. I made a career out of telling stories of my pain…”

On this session, he speaks of the need to stop dwelling on the past, things which you have no control over while striving for the best in the present.

Widely considered as one of Ghana’s richest musicians in an industry dominated by stereotypes of money, fame and pleasures, Omar says he is awake to the realities of life now.

On ‘Could Haves,’ he shares his thoughts about the need to chide materialism by considering the basic necessities of life, cherishing family while placing contentment above riches and even mental health.

“Make money big enough to buy the mall but if [its] at the expense of your sanity then don’t get involved,” he sings in a line.

Society think that you Fail but my bruh No Way.. next year you go Jam , you go Jam oh yeah , omoa bodam you be Man no Fear - Omar Sterling ???????? 18yrs ????????#SameEarthDifferentWorlds— Unruly King (@unrulyking00) June 22, 2021

This is a core theme shared by Same Earth Different Worlds and J. Cole’s recent project, The Off Season.

Omar Sterling is a celebrated figure in the public space and he is well aware of this. It is thereby not surprising that he has developed the art of using his status to help others see the truth.

“We’re out here sharing knowledge,” he says on ‘Wake and Bake Ghetto Girl, a song which showed his changing perspectives on the mission of his music.

Now hear this; “A mountain full of gold, double that will not be enough to satisfy the desires of a single soul…”

Those are the opening lines to my favorite song on the album, ‘A Mountain Full of Gold.’ In fact, the 3-minute song produced by KillBeatz lives rent-free in my head.

I mean who can, in a single song, carry so much life lessons and bars at the same time without enough time to even decipher each line.

No long talk all I want to say is OMAR STERLING ????????????????????Hero forever ????????????#SameEarthDifferentWorlds— 10 AM (@StrongmanBurner) June 22, 2021

“We’re bringing sanity to a world that is tired of the matrix, the false and the hatred… politricksters religious leaders are all liars,” he raps in the concluding lines.

That song is spiritually a whole EP on its own, honestly, and a competent lead song for the project.

‘Solid as a Rock’, is everything you’ll need in an upbeat rap tempo which at the same time talks about perseverance.

It gives you the impression that he is back with new views, fresh direction and perspective, but same vibe.

His much sought-after feature with M.anifest came in the form of Makola Dreams.

Makola Dreams ???????????? pic.twitter.com/CpBG3uxFLW— M.anifest (@manifestive) June 22, 2021

On the song, both artistes sing about ambitions and the ability situations to cause people to change the plans just to fit in a harsh climate, leaving no room for the realization of dreams.

The album also features label-mate Mugeez, Efya, Kwesi Arthur and Humble Dis. Producers include Killbeatz, Bali, DJ Afrolektra, Killmatic and Kuvie.

After multiple full listens and gauging reactions thereof, I now appreciate why an album of this stature will take this long to come out.

If you don’t like Omar sterling !!! Twene Jonas has a message for you #SameEarthDifferentWorlds pic.twitter.com/Su9VeYhr4V— Edem???? (@RealEdem) June 21, 2021

Considering the plethora of experiences bottled up in this body of work, it could have easily stretched another couple of months in order to get it right.

This Album is a ???? ???? set ! ???? #SameEarthDifferentWorlds— FIRST LADY (@Eazzyfirstlady) June 22, 2021

And oh, did you hear the subtle indication of a possible concert in December?

Keep your fingers crossed then.

According to him, the Public Universities’ Bill is a key policy framework necessary in ensuring standards in Universities across the country are of the highest quality.

His statement was in response to a question posed by Leader of the National Democratic Congress Caucus in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, during his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Monday, June 7.

Haruna Iddrisu had raised concern about the quality of education at accredited tertiary institutions in the country.

He said, “There’s what you call mushrooming of private universities in Ghana that has no respect for quality standards, yet it has the approval of the Ministry of Education working through its regulatory institutions.”

He thus called on the Minister designate to assure the panel of his commitment to ensuring “that quality standards will not be compromised for purposes of higher education in the country using those institutions.”

John Ntim Fordjour reacting to Haruna Iddrisu’s concerns, stated that “Considering some of the key policy intentions of the Public University Act, it’s all intentioned towards addressing some of these matters and, therefore, I will support the reengagement of stakeholders to ensure that the Public Universities bill comes back to the table to ensure standards at the tertiary level are not compromised.”

It will be recalled that the first introduction of the Public Universities Bill by the then-Minister of Education, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, was met with outrage and backlash from stakeholders in the University sector who were concerned the bill could potentially stifle academic freedom.

The then Education Minister, however, argued that it will harmonise the management of public universities.

Following heightened public outcry from universities and the general public against the bill, it was tabled for later to allow more stakeholder engagement.

About the bill

According to framers of the Public Universities Bill, it seeks to harmonise public universities’ finances, administration, and governance structure.

The Bill, when passed, will give the government power to appoint the majority of members of the University Council.

The Council then has the power to appoint and fire public university officials.

The Bill also gives the President the power to dissolve the University Council, which will now have the power to appoint a chancellor.

It also gives effect to the University Council to control the finances of the university and determine the allocation of funds.

In addition, there is a proposal to rename four public universities after various personalities.

Abdul Mahmmoud worries that one day, aggrieved customers of Menzgold will attack him because he is assumed to be NAM 1 whenever he is in public.
Coincidentally, he shares the same birthday with the CEO of the defunct gold dealership Menzgold, ” I feel threatened. That is why I decided to voice out so that people might know me and stop harassing me. Because of this situation, I don’t go out”, he said in an interview as reported on News360.

He claimed his social life is non-existent. At the airport, he is searched and delayed because of his close resemblance to Nana Appiah Mensah.
”Everyone will be on board the plane, and I will be at the security checkpoint answering questions. If you ask them what they are looking for, they will not tell you. All they say is that we are checking something. One day at the checkpoint, i told the lady that I am a Muslim and the person you are looking for is a Christian. So, we are not the same person” Abdul Mahmmoud expressed with worry.

He also recounted when he was nearly assaulted by Menzgold customers. He said, “This salah, I got down with my African-wear. One said, is he not the one? And the other said, where is his bodyguard. So they walked to the side of the car and said something in Hausa. And i responded that i am not the one because I understand Hausa. If I am the one, then they will beat me that day and take their money. If not that, then they will take the car.”
On his May 16th birthday, which also happens to be NAM 1’s birthday, Facebook deleted his posts on reports that his posts go against community standards on Spam. The situation has had a dire effect on him psychologically and business-wise.

He shared his frustrations on not being financially stable enough to hire security. So he has to have friends as escorts whenever he steps out, to avoid harassment.

Abdul Mahmmoud intends to grow his hair. Hopefully, a change in physical appearance will help his life will resume normalcy.

Mr Britton made this assertion when addressing problems facing Ghana’s music industry with regards to Gasmilla’s recent attack on Sarkodie over being the king of ‘Azonto.’

But Edem, who couldn’t keep his calm over the claim, took to Twitter to register his strong opinion.

This was what he said:

“Shut up and look wise @georgebritton.

“Michael Jackson’s absence didn’t collapse Music; Bob Marley’s Absence didn’t collapse Reggae; Ebony’s (RIP) Absence didn’t collapse the female scene; Industry collapse when they are not economically viable not when a handful leave.”

He said Mr Britton has shot himself in the foot as an artiste manager because he had earlier managed A-list acts like Keche, who might now feel disrespected by his statement.

“Artiste Manager rule number one… Put no one above your brand (artiste) Your a** kissing other names no make Keche self look big… Don’t do that to your new act … What u take the 500k promote? …Master sit down,” Edem said.

Edem isn’t the only rapper who has reacted to Mr Britton’s statement, Mr Logic, has equally asked the entertainment critic to apologise to musicians in Ghana.

According to Elder K Fred, Instagram model and actress Akuapem Poloo is negatively influencing some Gospel musicians because they believe that getting attention and most especially trending on social media is highly possible if they make videos of themselves commenting on ungodly and irrelevant issues as well as dressing in an ungodly way.

The Gospel musician/preacher who has released a new song titled “Aba Me So” in a short video trending online stated that some Gospel musicians find it difficult to talk about the word of God online but find it easy to go live on social media and say irrelevant things, insult others and dress like Akuapem Poloo just to make headlines.

ABA ME SO

He advised Akuapem Poloo to stop recording unnecessary videos and stop dressing impolitely just to trend online. He added that Akuapem Poloo will regret the things she did at her youthful age when she grows.

The Gospel singer also blasted young female singer Yaa Jackson over her indecent dressing style and advised her to stop copying Akuapem Poloo’s lifestyle.

Although Akuapem Poloo has been acting for years, she gained the nation’s attention when she started going nude on social media. She exposes most part of her body parts on social media and most Ghanaians have never been enthused with it.

In her defense, Akuapem Poloo claims she is paid to wear those dresses which expose her nakkedness on social media.

Yaa Jackson, on the other hand, has also warned Ghanaians to stop calling her a bad role model because she s not responsible for raising up any parents’ child for him or her.

According to Yaa Jackson the songstress, Parents should be responsible enough to be their children’s role model, not her.

According to Serwaa Amihere, she felt there was nothing wrong in describing Strongman as such but apologised because he felt offended.

The newscaster at GHOne also stated that she never had any intention of disrespecting Strongman when she called to ask questions about his beef with Medikal.

She further stated that she was going to ask the AMG rapper, Medikal the same questions but his line dropped and every effort to get him back on the line proved futile.

“I had a conversation with Strongman and I made him understand that I asked him those questions with no disrespect intended.

The problem they had was the fact that I called him a Kumasi-based rapper which I personally really didn’t find anything wrong with. I apologised to him for that but there is no issue at all”, Serwaa Amihere disclosed.

Serwaa Amihere received a lot of backlash and trolls from Ghanaians for asking Strongman to apologise to Medikal’s girlfriend Fella Makafui for using some unprintable words in his song ‘Immortal’.

She disclosed that it was very unfortunate that she had to go through such backlash and troll but she has moved past that and doesn’t have any issue with Strongman.

In an interview on Zionfelix’s Uncut, Portia, who wouldn't confirm if she were divorced or not, said she was forced to marry her husband, Rev. John Wilberforce Aidoo of Grace Baptist church because she was made to believe she was growing old.

According to her, she had a child after secondary school and thought it right to have a father figure for her son by getting married but would have preferred to get married for love and friendship.

“It is very common among the Akans to force young ladies to marry especially when you are closer to the big 30. Everyone thinks you are growing old and should settle down.

“When you get to a certain age, you feel marriage is all but I’m telling you it is not all. Take your time, know yourself for sure because it is not child’s play. Marriage is all about sacrifice because you have to be selfless.

“If you marry the person and there is no friendship or love, it will be very difficult to jump the hurdles that come your way.

"You will easily give up and that why I encourage people to marry their friends or marry those they love because you will definitely get disappointed when you marry because your friends are marrying,” she said.

Portia Asare who said she didn’t want to be referred to as a Kumawood actress couldn’t answer questions about her divorce.

“I’m not wearing my ring because ring is an accessory and you can choose to wear it whenever you dress up or not,” she said.

Portia went off the screens after her marriage and the The Good Old Days actress said she is back in the business.

The movement seems to be taking root in Ghana as well, with recent backlashes initiated against Comedian Waris and Teacher Kwadwo for sexually inappropriate jokes.

The difference being sexual assault allegations have not been made against either of the two but their words alone is getting them into huge trouble.

A few weeks ago it was Comedian Waris being roasted for making inappropriate jokes about Titi Sarkcess, and now some old posts by Teacher Kwadwo in which he made rape jokes have landed him in trouble, after some activism by the Pepper Dem Group.

The group petitioned Huawei, who sponsor him, to terminate their deal with him and also petitioned the Ghana Education Service to fire him.

Huawei thus ended their relationship with Kwadwo and he also received a letter from GES warning him about his conduct.

The rapper who has been in the music industry for some years now was of the view that the main reason why Ghanaians have accepted both Kuami Eugene and KiDi is that they are considered to be better singers than Wizkid and Davido.

But in reaction to Okyeame Kwame’s claims, Kuami Eugene in the studios of GHOne TV’s Rhythmz Live nullified Okyeame’s assertion, saying that, they can’t be better than Davido & Wizkid at the moment taking into consideration a number of factors.

“Okyeame Kwame Is All About Authentic Highlife Music So He Sees And Finds It More Pleasant Than What He Thinks Davido And Wizkid Are Doing. But I Will Never Say We Sing And Sound Better Than They Do.” Eugene Told Eli Kharis On GHOne TV’s Rhythmz Live.

Kuami Eugene went on to say that the respect he has for Davido rose to apogee on the day he approached him for a collaboration. According to him, Davido is a matured person and “he’s ruling his world, a king somewhere and on top of Africa.”

“My Extreme Respect For Davido Comes When He Personally Approached Me For A Collaboration. Davido Is A Matured Person, He’s Ruling His World, A King Somewhere And On Top Of Africa. So For Him Coming Down To Approach A Young Guy Like Me Kuami Eugene, I Felt Honoured And Amazed Asking Myself If It Was Real. Davido Is A Masterpiece On His Own And He Respects The Hard Work People Are Putting In Their Works And I Respect Him For That.

It’s worth knowing that Achipalago, a social media influencer, also came in hard for Okyeame Kwame following his erroneous proclamation that the Lynx Entertainment boys are better off than the Nigerian superstars – Davido & Wizkid.

The NDC launched different versions of the song at their just-ended 9th National Delegates Congress held at the International Trade Fair Centre in Accra.

Speaking on a radio station in Kumasi, Evangelist Aning said he was not consulted before his song was used by the NDC in that manner, and insisted he is compensated for the illegal use of his intellectual property.

Evangelist Aning told show host Akwesi Agudey that he does not want to proceed to court for the matter to be addressed, and for that reason, his managers are at the negotiation table with the NDC to ensure that he is duly compensated.

The gospel artiste said he went for a loan to promote the song after the producers failed to help him in that regard.

The surgery, according to him, will cost an estimated Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 10,000.00).

“I started having headaches and decided to get painkillers from a pharmacy but looking at the severity a month after, I decided to seek medical attention at the Lapaz Community Clinic, Accra,” Supremo told the media in an interview.

Initially, I was asked to get my eyes checked at the eye clinic because my left eye was swollen after which the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Specialist of the Clinic, after reviewing the result of a scan I did, diagnosed me with a brain tumour which has left me blind in my left eye and now I have been asked to take another scan (MRI) which will be done tomorrow before the surgery.”

He pleaded with Ghanaians to support him.
Emmanuel Kwame Anokye is a talented highlife artiste who is currently promoting his latest song, “Hash Wuish”, and has other songs such as “Fame Twa”, “Krom Ayɛ Dɛ”, “Efiri Nea Efire” and “Se Mepe Mehoa Ni” to his credit.

The delegation included popular actress Mercy Asiedu, movie producer Jones Agyemang and a host of others who spent time with the family in their family house at Suami.

Bill Asamoah explained the family was preparing the body of the deceased for burial.

“The news of the death of Blinks is such a sad one and we are here to console and share our sympathies with the family. As you know, he is a Moslem and as it is demanded of them, he has to be buried today so the family is readying for that”, Bill Asamoah said.

He also used the moment to condemn the barbaric act that took the life of their colleague and called on the police service to act in all urgency to apprehend the culprits.

Portions of a statement signed by him read;

“We are still in shock and just can’t tell why this round artiste in the person of our brother should have his life snuffed out of him at his budding age and career. We still can’t fathom on what premise this heinous perpetration was perpetrated by these unscrupulous and coward individuals.”

He described the act as that of cowardice and utterly condemned it.

“This act of cowardice is condemned, and must be condemned in no uncertain terms by all and sundry. The tendency of people taking the laws in their hands to met capital punishment to their perceived enemies must be nipped in the bud, and, the time is now.”

They called on security operatives to quickly attend to the issue and bring the culprits to book.

“We would like as a matter of urgency, call on the security services to nap out every strategy within their reach to hunt down these cowards to make them face the full rigours of the laws of the land. We can’t live in a country where such atrocities are allowed to flourish to the detriment of innocent and defenseless citizens.

We would like to take this opportunity to ask all industry players, artists, in particular, to remain calm as we look forward to seeing the security agencies, and for that matter the Police Service, in particular, to carry out their duty to its logical conclusion by apprehending those murderers.

Let us at this juncture appeal to the general public to also help in curbing this acts by reporting such infractions to the law enforcement agencies rather than taking the laws into their own hands.”

She has asked leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, to invite movie makers for a discussion.

Gabby, had chided Ghanaian movies for not championing any development agenda.

He said after watching 10 Ghanaian movies he was disappointed by the content.

“I took my time to watch randomly ten Ghanaian movies and never felt so disappointed. It brought home to me one major deficiency in our development. The apparent lack of deliberate consciousness on the part of the creative industry in the development conversation,” he wrote on his Facebook timeline.

But Juliet in an interview with Nana Adwoa Sarkordie of Citi TV stated that it was wrong for Gabby to have judged Ghanaian movies with just 10 movies.

“It is unfortunate that he will generalize something like that because we don’t even know the movies he watched.

You can’t just put everyone into the same box because some of us are trying so hard.

The likes of Yvonne Nelson, Kafui Danku and the likes, we are all trying so hard to do movies that put Ghana on the global map,” she said.

Gabby in his post also urged Ghanaian movie makers to learn from Hollywood so they could produce agenda-driven movies.

“The presence of the creative industry appears at best peripheral in Ghana’s development narrative. Our movies, our songs, our arts, by and large, do not impactfully plug into a greater development agenda.

Hollywood, for the best part of a century, has been deliberately used by America to push successfully American cultural “supremacy” agenda; it has been used as an effective instrument of military or economic indoctrination,” he stated.

However, Juliet in the interview described the Hollywood comparison as distasteful.

“If you come making statement like that it makes us all look stupid, excuse me to say.
You can’t compare us to Hollywood, how can you do that?

No one even compares Nollywood to Hollywood, you want us to be like them when we don’t have the support and equipment,” Juliet said.

She therefore called on Gabby to invite the stakeholders and tell them what specifically is wrong with the movie industry, than lump all movie makers together as not impacting society.

“Invite us if possible and tell us that this is what you watched and this is how we can make it better.

We need more corporate bodies to invest in our industry to enable us get it back to where it was or better,” she told Nana Adwoa.”

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko came under serious attack from some Ghanaian film makers for his opinion on Ghanaian movies.

While some thought he hit the nail right on the head, others have opined that he should channel his energy into influencing the government to fashion out better policies for the creative industry.

Meanwhile, he has remained resolute is his call for actors in the creative industry to realize the concept of moving Ghana Beyond Aid and elevate consciousness in Ghana.
