UWR/Assemblies given 7th December deadline to submit yearly reports

The Upper West regional minister Alhaji Suleman on Tuesday directed all assemblies in the region to tender in their yearly reports to the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council by 7th December.

This directive was contained in a speech delivered at a meeting involving the assemblies, departmental heads and other stakeholders.

The meeting which also created the opportunity for deliberations on the drive to improve the falling standards of education in the region compelled the minister to express strategies to better the situations.

The minister hinted his desire to quickly call on UNICEF to intervene on the matter. “We will discuss our issues of education challenges with UNICEF and try to impress upon them to extend their support to all districts in the region” he added.

He also announced that stake holders would be consulted in collaborations with the Regional House of Chiefs and MMDCEs to look in to reducing to the barest minimum over issues of land and chieftaincy and other conflicts related issues.

Hon. Suleman Alhassan called on the Forestry Commission to fight Rosewood salvaging in the region. He noted that the menace was a detriment future generations and should be fiercely dealt with.

“we want to say that, you need to go the extra mile to support the region. We are talking about whatever inheritance we live for generations yet unborn so we would need your expertise” he added.
