5 persons arrested; 2 unconfirmed dead in Konkomba-Chokosi clash in Saboba

Latest report reaching WatchGhana.Com indicates that the Northern Regional Police Command has apprehended five (5) persons in connection with the violent clash between Konkombas and Chokosis in the Saboba District.
According to our Northern Regional Correspondent Akyereba Kwabena, two (2) single barrel guns and 73 cartridges have so far been retrieved from the suspects by the security operatives. 24 cartridges were retrieved from suspects yesterday at Tambo and 49 from suspects today at Bonbaba.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko has confirmed this report at a media briefing in Tamale. He said all the suspects are in police custody assisting with investigations.
According to him, Police and Military patrols had been intensified in the area, and doing everything possible to prevent any escalation of the violence. DSP Tanko appealed to the Konkombas and Chokosis to resort to dialogue to settle their differences.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed report reaching WatchGhana.Com has it that about two (2) persons have died as a result of the violence, and about nine (9) motorbikes have also been arrested and destroyed by the military.

Fresh fight broke out between the Chokosis and Konkombas in the Saboba District. The incident which started at about 17:30pm yesterday was as a result of a contention over a piece of farmland between the Chokosis in Nambiri Zongo and Konkombas in Tombo community both in the Saboba District. At about 9:00 am today 19th May, 2019, a group of persons believed to be Konkombas attacked and burnt Koli, a Chokosi community near Nambiri in the Saboba District, which action received immediate reprisal attack from the Chokosis who also burnt down the Nanduni community within the Konkomba area.
