Agogo: Man gun down by Fulani herdsmen

A 38-year-old man has been shot dead by some Fulani herdsmen at Asatoase near Kowireso in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti region.

The incident happened on Sunday, May 19, 2019 when the deceased, Azabil Asawe, was working on his farm and got shot by the herdsmen in the lower abdomen.

The body has been deposited at Agogo presbyterian hospital's morgue.

MCE for the area, Francis Oti Boateng who confirmed the incident to WatchGhana.Com Ashanti Regional Correspondent described the shooting incident as a reprisal attack.

He said about two months ago, the father of the deceased, Jacob Azabil exchanged gunshots with the Fulani herdsmen when they attacked him in his farm.

Mr Azabil, however overpowered the herdsmen and shot two dead and injured one in the process.

Hon. Oti Boateng, noted that the herdsmen may have come to retaliate the deceased's father but unfortunately met with his son and shot him dead.

He pleaded with the youth in the area not to cause any confusion and assured them of their safety.

He said he will not sit down and allow the herdsmen to attack the indigenes.

He said a joint police and military team has been deployed to the area to hunt for the suspects.
