Be careful how you use emergency contraceptives-female students warned

A Physician Assistant at the Eastern Regional Government Hospital, Dr. Godfred Sackey has advised young females to exercise maximum care before taking emergency contraceptives since it could damage or affect their menstrual cycle and also permanently prevent pregnancy.
Many young girls especially those in school, in their desperation to prevent unwanted pregnancies or enjoy continuous sexual intercourse resort to different kind of contraceptives without recourse to their negative effects on their reproductive health.
Speaking at a Menstrual Hygiene Day talk organized by Sisters Diary, a local NGO for some female students of Trom M/A Junior High School at Koforidua in the Eastern Region, Dr Sackey advised the girls to know their menstrual cycle and learn to notice any changes in their menstruation.
According to him, it was very necessary for girls to visit the hospital if they noticed any abnormal changes in their menstrual cycle in order to avoid complications.
Mrs. Joyce Kennedy, the Head-teacher of the School expressed her appreciation for such a great opportunity and appealed to Sisters Diary to extend their awareness creation to other schools in the region and Ghana at large.
Some of the students who spoke to WatchGhana.Com Eastern Regional Correspondent, Rosina Duah were excited about the quality of education extended to them by the NGO since most of them were completely naïve about their menstrual cycles and other related issues.
Sisters Diary as part of the event distributed some items to the girls to improve on their hygiene. They insisted on Sisters Diary to visit them again.

Meanwhile, Sisters Diary is women and girls centred NGO and network based in Ghana with the sole purpose of informing, improving, educating, empowering and championing various gender and social issues affecting the development of women and girls.
