Some junior officers of the Ghana Police Service in the Northern Region have decided to start a campaign to redeem the image of the service or win back the lost respect, trust and confidence the public has in them.

The junior officers who have vowed to restored sanity in the service starting from their level (junior ranks), said the first thing they plan to do is to ensure all men and women of the service pay special attention to the way they dress.

According to Lance Corporals Emmanuel Fobi and Daniel Zah who are spearheading this campaign, their observations and analysis have shown that police and other security officers who dress neatly or dress so well are accorded maximum respect by the public.

“People easily form their opinions or create their own perceptions about people based on their way of dressing. Appearing or dressing shabbily in public automatically take away the respect of the people and they begin to doubt your professionalism and credibility”

They argued that “The Service Instruction (SI) 91 which is called the Police Bible talks about turn-out/appearance of the personnel of Ghana Police Service. It is expected of every single personnel of the service to appear neat in uniform at all times, and also have all equipment fixed in proper order. Acting otherwise is tantamount to charges”.

By this reason coupled with the dwindling confidence of the public, we the junior officers have taken it upon ourselves to go in accordance with this section of the SI and appear neat just to set exemplary life to our colleagues who aren't ready to adhere to 'instructions'.

The two junior officers who have already taken the lead to appear neat in the police uniform in the region, said they are in talks with other junior officers to do same and are confident it would affect other officers of the service across the country.
Meanwhile, Corporal Emmanuel Fobi and Daniel Zah who have become talk of town in Tamale due to the way they appear neatly in the police uniform, indeed attract a lot of attention and admiration from majority of the public.

"We want to take this opportunity to plead to our authorities to help provide us with the needed set of uniforms (boots, lanyard, beret, etc) at least, twice a year, so that we can appear neat and serve unceasingly".

The junior officers who expressed their appreciation to the Authorities for doing very well in supplying the police with vehicles, appealed to them to provide complete uniforms.

But in the meantime, they encouraged the junior officers to manage what is available and appear neat, so that they could do more when more is given.
