NDC vets 37 MP aspirants to contest primaries in 11 constituencies in Upper West Region.

The opposition NDC in the Upper West Region has successfully vetted parliamentary aspirants going for the party’s parliamentary primaries.

The Regional Communications office of the party hosted the vetting of individuals from the eleven constituencies in the region. The process took two days to complete as scheduled. 

Thursday 25th and Friday 26th saw the screening of all the 37 aspirants amidst large crowds of supporters and well wishers. Some aspirants came to the grounds in long convoys with very loud music from public address systems mixed with blowing of motor horns and brass band music.

No aspirant was disqualified. There however was a petition from the Lawra constituency against one Daniel Tigbee. The petition contested his party membership and time of stay in the constituency but he was cleared by the vetting committee to contest the primaries.

Two other constituencies DBI and Nandom have unopposed candidates. Incumbent MP Dr. Sabastian Ngmenenso Sandari and Dr. Richard Kuuire respectively.

Three constituencies, Lawra, Wa East and Wa West would have two aspirants each, go in to the race. Hon. Bede Ziedeng and Daniel Tigbee in Lawra, Ameen Salifu and Dr. Godfred Siedu Jasaw in  Wa East whiles Hon. Yeleh Chireh and Peter Lanchene Toobu in the Wa West Constituency.

The Sissala West and Lambussie Constituency would witness three aspirants each, competing for the parliamentary candidate position of the party. Hakeem M. Duwiejua, Adams Sukparu and Mary Hagbana A. Azantilow would race in Sissala West while incumbent MP Edward Dery K. Ewola has former DCE, Hon. Bom Kofi Dy-Yaka and Mercellinus Welber testing in Lambussie.

The Wa Central constituency has three candidates contesting the incumbent MP, Hon. Hassan Rasheed Pelpuo. Dr. Sherif M. Khalid, Lawyer Wahid Bampuori Iddrisu as well as former MCE, Hon. Duogo Yakubu are into the race totaling four aspirants in the constituency.

The Sissala East would witness five number aspirants into the race. The vetting committee on Thursday cleared Jamila Ibrahim, Dr. Sumaila Assuru, Issah Mohammed Bataglia, Bukari Bayorbo and Adamu Yakubu to participate in the parliamentary primaries.

The Jirapa constituency is going to be the most watched constituency as incumbent MP, Francis Bawaana Dakura sees his 2016 campaign manager Hon. Dapilah Cletus contesting him attentively. Also in the race are Bright Babanye Saliah, Dr. Daplah K. Reagan, Kuunaah Richard and Vitus Gbang. This totals the number of aspirants to six.

Nadowli-Kaleo has the largest number of parliamentary aspirants in the primaries. This number is however not surprising as the sitting MP Hon. Alban Bagbin did not file to contest in the primaries. Before nominations were open, some pressure group launched an operation to get the MP out of Parliament after a successful seven turns representation of people.
John Salifu Dumba, Mathin Lucas N.K, Mumuni Awudu Adams, Dr. Camynta Baezie, Sumah Mwinkaara Anthony, Dr. Vitalis Mwinyuri Suuro and Romanus Z.K Gyang are all aspiring replace Alban Bagbin in Parliament.
