UWR/National Youth Authority calls on stake holders to take youth empowerment critical.

The Upper West Regional director of the National Youth Authority (NYA) on Saturday hosted the youth in a Health Walk as part of this year’s National Youth Week to promote healthy living.

The health walk is expected to happen in all the regional capitals across the country to promote youth empowerment in the development of this country in a sustainable way. Aside mentorship programs in schools, seminars, workshops, Training and networking are among other activities geared towards keep the youth abreast with trends.

The Upper West Region hosted its version of the walk here in Wa. The gathering made up of members of the Regional Youth Parliament, School children, Youth Clubs and other Youth based organisations joined the walk, clad in T-Shirts with the Authority scripted on, to create a uniform.

Holding placards with inscriptions such as ‘We stand for Ghana beyond aid’ ‘We stand for peace’ ‘Ghana Youth arise and shine’ ‘The youth the future of Ghana’ amongst others. From the Basketball court at the Regional Coordinating Council, the crowd moved through the Insurance Road to T junction to traffic before heading to the jubilee park.

The Regional Director of the Authority Mr. Archibald Donkoh used the opportunity to call on the youth to continue to avail themselves for community development. Speaking at the side lines of event, he further disclosed several mentorship programs are being run in schools to aspire for greatness among the youth.

He explained that the youth has a key role to play in the nations develop. He observed that in as much as the youth have a lot to offer in most sectors of the economy, it is also of concern to build the, calling on all stakeholders to come on board to achieve reach the potential.

‘The most important thing is to make sure that they are well positioned to do that. So I would use this platform to edge all stakeholders, our Traditional authorities, Religious bodies, CSOS, all NGOS to come on board, play their respective roles to make sure our , play their respective roles to make sure that our Youth are well empowered to play their roles as stakeholders in National Development’’ Archibald said.

He also advised young people to be development oriented to be able to contribute to the Nations development.

The Organizers of Festival Upper West and Rabito Clinic host a health screening exercise at the end of the health walk at the Jubilee Park whiles beverage sellers Charger Enterprise provided entertainment throughout the program.

The leadership of the Youth Authority visited the Wa Central Mosque and the St. Andrews Catholic Cathedral on Friday and Sunday respectively to worship with them as part of activities geared towards the Youth Week celebrations.

The National Youth Authority (NYA) was established in 1974 mandated to ensure the empowerment of the Ghanaian youth. This Authority is run under the Ministry for Youth & Sports. In quest of this goal, the NYA is charged with the responsibility of implementing policies and programs that will develop and empower the youth.
