The Deputy Chief Executive of the Microfinance and Small Loans Center (MASLOC), Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah has disbursed an amount of One Million Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,000,000) to several small and medium scale enterprises in the Yendi Municipality to expand their businesses.
In all, seven hundred and seventy-six (776) loan applicants made up of 750 group loan applicants from 30 identifiable groups and twenty-six (26) individual loan applicants received the support.
The beneficiary groups which included farmers, transport operators, food and beverage vendors, beauticians, fashion designers (seamstress), artisans and other entrepreneurs in both formal and informal sectors, received physical cash right in the comfort of their community.
The loan which was facilitated by the Deputy CEO of MASLOC in charge of Northern Sector of Ghana, Hajia Abibata, is by far the biggest loan disbursement ever received by small businesses and individuals in the north.
MASLOC has over the years adopted to making loans available and more accessible to groups/applicants across all the 16 regions of Ghana under the strict supervision of their Disbursement Teams in order to minimize ghost names and diversion of funds.
The Deputy CEO of MASLOC, Hajia Abiabata who supervised the disbursement process in Yendi on Thursday May 21, 2020 commended the Government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and MASLOC Management for their commitment towards improving the socio-economic wellbeing of the people.
Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah who is also an aspiring parliamentary candidate of the NPP in the Yendi Constituency said that the loan forms part of the Government’s poverty alleviation strategies especially among the rural poor and other vulnerable groups.
Hajia Abibata Shanni admonished the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, improve on their livelihoods and also endeavor to pay back the loans for others to benefit.
On their part, some elated beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Hajia Abibata for leading the entire processes for them to be considered for the MASLOC loans.
Some of them disclosed that the loan is the best thing that had ever happened in their lives and recounted how the NPP aspirant had been instrumental in getting the loan to them.
“We did not know that poor people in Yendi here can also benefit this huge support from MASLOC because most of us applied in previous regime but did not get it- until Hajia Abibata held our hands, did all the necessary arrangements and has indeed brought us this good news today. It feels like we are dreaming! May God bless her for always thinking about we the people of Yendi first before even her own family,” some of the beneficiary expressed.
They also pledged to invest the funds carefully so they can pay back on time and also grow their enterprises.
