Upper East Minister Urges Adherence To COVID-19 Protocols At Voter's Registration Centres

The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Tangoba  Abayage has expressed satisfaction about the work done so far by the Electoral Commission (EC) in the first phase of the ongoing voters registration exercise in the region. 

She was particularly happy about the measures put in place by EC to contain the spread of COVID-19 and however encouraged the people to religiously adhere to the protocols. 

The Regional Minister made the observation when she visited some registration centres in the Builsa South Constituency where 21,278 potential voters were expected to be captured by the EC.  
She also visited other centres in the Builsa North where over 34,000 voters were earmarked to register.

At the time of her visit on July 8,  2020, both the Builsa South and Builsa North Constituencies had registered 4,238 and 4,019 voters respectively.

The figures were disclosed to the Upper East Regional Minister, who also doubles as the Parliamentary Candidate for Navrongo Central  Constituency on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) as she went round some polling stations to assess the on-going voter registration exercise.

The Builsa Norht District Electoral Officer,  the District Officer, Mr. Mohammed  Sherifden  Alhassan
indicated that the constituency had been zoned into five areas and they are currently working at less populated areas.

He assured the Minister that with the strategy adopted by the EC, they would be able to reach their target of 34,000 voters by the time the team finishes the populated areas such Tsutuliga, Wiaga and Sandema.

Hon. Tangoba  Abayage expressed satisfaction about the progress of work so far considering the number of people who have registered   already.  She used  the occasion to urge the registration officers to do more in order to capture all the  eligible voters onto the  register.

The Minister is expected to visit some other centers in the Bongo Constituency as one of the districts on her itinerary for the on-going voter registration exercise.
The 2020 Voter Registration exercise started on June 30 and it is expected to end on August 6. The exercise is scheduled into phases and the second phase is currently on-going and will end on Sunday 12th July 2020.
