Volta Youth Forum Descends Heavily On Pius Hadzide Over Alleged Pride, Disrespect For Chiefs

A group calling itself the Volta Youth Forum has descended heavily on the Deputy Information Minister, Hon. Pius Enam Hadzide for his alleged “disrespect for the elderly and important moral voices of our country”.

A statement issued in Accra Tuesday 14th July, 2020 and signed by its National President, Mr. Daniel Ahiabor, the Volta Youth Forum said that they were appalled by Mr. Hadzide’s “ill- conceived admonition directed at our respected chiefs whose only crime was to join the masses of our people including some Pastors, Former Presidents and distinguished members of our society in cautioning against some acts they, like others, consider unhealthy for the unity of our dear country”.

It condemned the Deputy Information Minister for hiding under the cloak of political power to speak vile and dishonor their kinsmen. According to the Volta Youth Forum, majority of those kinsmen were self-made professionals and achievers in their respective fields of endeavor and in the revered chieftaincy institution.

They maintained that his admonition smacked of “pride, insolence and condensation for old age and traditional authority in general”.

“You have in the umpteenth time earned yourself the unenviable title of arrogance and pride. In your haste to be seen defending your government, you tend to spew balderdash and points which betray your ignorance. How on earth do you think you know better than our respected chiefs who are guided by experience, wisdom and history? How do you think you who owe your position to someone's benevolence can be independent in thought, but our revered chiefs can be politically 'directed' in their stance on national issues?”

The statement advised Mr. Hadzide to model his life after his sector Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and some decent members of his government whose handling of national issues transcend party interest.

The group noted that, even though they were aware of the fact that Mr. Hadzide ought to be seen working hard so as to justify his position after a not-too-good experience at his previous Ministry (Youth and Sports), he should remember that pride goes before fall.

Saying, “Your utterances are courting bad press for your party and government. Your actions and utterances are reinforcing some negative perceptions. Please, be minded that no matter how long the frog lives in a pond, it can never change into crocodile”.

It would be recalled that the Deputy Information Minister yesterday on Starr Fm Monday admonished the National House of Chiefs not to allow itself to be misdirected by the opposition NDC.

Mr. Hadzide’s admonition came after the President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV criticized the Government over the deployment of military personnel into parts of the country including the Volta Region.

Speaking during a tour by NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, Togebe Afede XIV said the deployment is an unprecedented invasion.

But the Deputy Information Minister rebutted that the deployment into the Volta and several other parts of the country cannot be described as an invasion saying “I think that that is a very unfortunate characterization. Maybe it is derived out of a lack of understanding or plain ignorance of what is underpinning this deployment.”
