Give Police In Upper East More Motorbikes To Fight Crime – Regional Minister To IGP

The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Tangoba Abagaye has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Police Administration to as a matter of urgency provide a few motorbikes to personnel on the ground for effective police patrolling in the region especially for those in the Kassina – Nankana Municipality.

She said this has become absolute necessary because the terrain where most of the crimes are committed are found in the bush and, therefore, pick-ups cannot easily access those places due to rocky nature, and the available rivers, lakes and streams.

She made the appeal at her office in Bolgatanga during a courtesy call on her by the Director General of Police in charge of National Protection, C.O.P Patrick A. Akolgo.

Hon. Abayage said at least a few motorbikes to start with in the hinterlands would go a long way to make the Police more visible to deter criminals who are bent on fomenting troubles in the Navrongo Central Constituency.

The Minister further explained that the Upper East Region is generally peaceful except some few land and chieftaincy disputes which are not surprise because the region is the most diverse in the country with at least ten distinct tribes.

She commended the police personnel in the region especially those in the Kassina -Nankana Municipality for their continuous efforts in maintaining peace in that area and in the Region as a whole

C.O.P Akolgo who is also a member of Police Management Board (POMAB) responsible for Upper East Region briefed the Minister on his one-week tour to the region which took him to every district.

He assured the Minister that her request would get to Inspector General Police (I.G.P) since that policy was being already implemented in their system and is being practiced in the Accra and Kumasi which tremendously helped in reducing the crime rates.

The Police Commissioner who hails from the Region particularly Zuarungu in the newly created Bolgatanga East District said the I.G.P has changed the administrative policy of the Police Service and explained that unlike those days where Commissioners sit in the headquarters in Accra to work is over. “Now we move to the ground once in while to serve as role-models and inspiration to the young officers on the ground”.

He, therefore, charged the men and women in the service to put up their best and also behave professionally as the Motto of the service indicates, “Service with Integrity”.
