President Akufo-Addo Ends Upper East Regional Tour

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo has ended his two day's working visit to the Upper East Region where he inspect a number of completed and on-going projects and cut sod for other new projects.
He was met with a number of colourful durbars organized on his honour  by some kingdoms where he was assured of his second term in office and in the company of the Regional Minister, Hon. Tangoba Abayage, Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister for Defense Hon. Dominic Nitiwul, Minister For Aviation, Hon. Joseph Kofi Adda and Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice toured a number of Municipality and Districts
At Namoalgu in the Talensi District, President Akufo –Addo inspected a completed Irrigation Dam for One- Village- One –Dam under Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) at the cost of 25 million Ghana Cedis which will provide water for all year farming activities and for livestock.
Later, the President moved to the White Volta at Bazua in the Bawku West District where he was briefed by the Residence Engineer, Eng. Kofi Dagadu. According to him, 50 kilometers of the 116 kilometers stretch of Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polimakum Road have been already completed and commissioned.  He  added that by November 2020, additional 30 kilometers would be completed and assured the enthused crowd that the entire stretch would be completed before the end of the President’s first term in office.

President Akufo-Addo later commissioned a completed warehouse under One-District –One-Warehouse  in Nabdam District and assured the residents that his government would provide all the necessary facilities to make the warehouse a modern one to assist them store their farm produce  at the gloat period so that during the lean season it will attract an appreciable price.
On the second day, President Akufo – Addo addressed the entire region on Ghana Broadcast Co-operation (GBC), Upper East Region branch, URA Radio where he touched on some of his manifesto promises including the Planting for Food and Jobs, the Free Senior High School and Universal Health coverage.
On the agriculture sector, the President said nearly 3,000 Agriculture Extension Officers were employed to help farmers in modern farming methods to produce enough food for Ghanaians. As a result, he added, Ghana has become a net exporter of food crops to neighboring countries Burkina Faso, Togo, Niger and Mali.
President Akufo- Addo explained that the Free Senior High School policy sought to address access and equity adding that it does not matter where a Ghanaian child finds himself or herself, they must have equal access to education to the level possible in order to make them responsible and contribute their quota towards nation development.
He later met the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs where he commended the roles of chieftaincy which he described as relevant just like all other state institutions. He urged the traditional rulers to stop certain cultural practices especially those against women and children such as widowhood rights and child-marriage and again called on the chiefs to support government fight some social injustices, bad environment practices like ‘’ Galamsay’’ and corruption.
He assured the Chief and the people of Upper East Region that starting agenda 111 for the next twelve months, 100 capacity Districts Hospitals would be built where there is none. He mentioned Binduri, Builsa South, Kassena Nankana West, Nabdam, Pusiga, Bolgatanga East and Timpani as beneficiary districts. He added that enough accommodation would also be provided for medical personnel to make them fully functional.
According president Akufo – Addo, since his assumption in office, 1,488 various projects have been executed in the Upper East Region including 688 completed while 800 are on- going. He explained further that out of the 688, 94 are in the educational sector, 20 in the health sector, 13 in the road sector and 269 are under the water and sanitation sector. He also cut sod for the construction of waste recycling and composite plant, a project by Zoomlion Company Ltd, a Private Organization under Water and Sanitation Ministry, to process waste into fertilizer at Sherigu suburb of Bolagtanga Central Constituency.
He finally inspected on-going work on an inland port at Paga in the Kassena –Nankana West District. The President appealed to residents in the region to give him and all the fifteen New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidates a resounding victory in the upcoming December 7 general elections to continue all the major intervention projects started under his regime. 
 He particularly touched on the Pwalugu Multi-purpose Dam in Talensi District as the single most biggest investment in the Northern Sector of Ghana since independent costing nearly one billion dollars. The project, if completed will reduce the perennial flooding problem, provide water for irrigation activities, generate hydro-power and provide jobs to over thousands of people.
