NADMO Gives Report On Tidal Waves Disaster In Some Parts of Volta Region Of Ghana

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has given report on the tidal waves disaster that occured in some parts of Volta Region which rendered some residents homeless. According to NADMO, more than 200 homes have been destroyed by high tides that swept through some communities in the Volta Region.

In an interview on JoyNews, the Deputy Director-General of NADMO, Seji Saji Amedonu stated that their preliminary assessment shows the damages were very serious. “The data we got we are having almost over 200 to 300 houses affected, then those who are displaced most importantly I hear they are just about below 4000, and that is quite a huge number.

So the devastation for us is quite serious and we are giving it all the serious attention that is needed, the hardest hit I’m told is the Keta area,” he told Maxwell Agbagba. Mr. Amedonu posited that he is still assessing the damages to ascertain which ones can be salvaged or temporarily restored to serve as shelters for homeowners. However, he added that some residents have been given temporary shelter and safe havens while assessment is ongoing.
