The people of Asesewa in the Eastern Region have threatened to hit the streets with a massive demonstration against the government to press home their demand for potable drinking water. The residents claimed they struggle and share what they termed as mud water with animals for the past two years. According to the convener of the yet to be held demonstration who is also the Assembly Member for the Asesewa Community "A" Electoral Area, Nti Foster Kofi Aborjemke, Asesewa is now a town and for that matter a district capital and not a community.
He gave the hint at the Assembly Meeting of the Upper Manya Krobo District at Asesewa. Mr Aborjemke said his people enjoyed regular supply of potable drinking water years back under the Community Water Management.
He said their woes begun when the Community Water and Sanitation Agency took over and got worsened when some main pipelines were cut off during the construction of some roads in the town. It is against this background that they are requesting the Ghana Water Company to take over the administration of their water system from the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) for effective management. He said several attempts and petitions to all the responsible institutions to come to their aid proved futile.
On his part, the Upper Manya Krobo District Manager of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Godfred Nimo appealed the to the people to exercise restraint because demonstrations do not solve problems. He however promised to keep in touch with them so far as his outfit is there to provide them with good water.
