The National Peace Council has urged both the Majority and Minority leadership in Parliament to resort to dialogue and consensus building in resolving the current impasse between them and those that might occur in the future.
The Council, according to a statement issued in Accra and singed by its Chairman, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi noted that separate meetings had been held with the leadership of both the majority and the minority in Parliament on Thursday 2nd December, 2021 regarding the tension that erupted after the reading of the 2022 Budget by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.
In both meetings, the statement indicated, the Council expressed concern about the disturbing happenings in Parliament and called for calm.
It said that “Both the Majority Leader, Honourable Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and Minority Leader, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu in their responses, informed the Council that both sides had made concessions and a committee of 20 members drawn from both sides had been set up to dialogue towards finding a solution to the impasse as soon as practicable”.
The statement also urged the media and those who make statements on the matter to exercise maximum restraint in their pronouncements to protect the peace, stability, and the integrity of the country.Read The Full Statement

The National Peace Council has followed with concern the current happenings in Parliament regarding the approval of the 2022 Budget policy of government.
Efforts by the Peace Council
The National Peace Council, taking cognizance of the potential impact of the happenings in Parliament on the peace and stability of the country, had separate meetings with both the Majority and Minority Leaders in Parliament on Thursday December 2, 2021. In both meetings, the Council expressed concern about the disturbing happenings in Parliament and called for calm. The Council further urged the leaders to resort to dialogue and consensus building in resolving the impasse.
Responses by the Leaders*Both the Majority and the Minority Leaders, Honorable Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and Honorable Haruna Iddrisu in their responses, informed the Council, that both sides had made concessions and a committee of 20 members drawn from both sides had been set up to dialogue towards finding a solution to the impasse as soon as practicable.
The Council in further pursuit of the above discussions, appeals to both sides of the House, to continue the path of dialogue in resolving the current impasse and those that may occur in the future. The Council further urges the media and all those who make statements on the matter, to exercise maximum restraint in their pronouncements to protect the peace, stability, and the integrity of our beloved country.
