“What killed Professor Atta Mills?”

A special petition to probe the death of the late former president John Evans Atta Mills must be put together professionally and filed before the president to act upon it.

Because when the “faceless staff” of the Electoral Commission [EC] petitioned the president Nana Akufo Akufo Addo on July 19, 2017 to impeach then [EC] boss Charlotte Osei, the president acted quickly because the petition was filed in a professional manner.

This means if all calling for the probe into Professor Atta Mills death want action be taken, they should first get their petition written a professional way and file before the president in a professional manner and he will quickly act on it.

Ten years since the passing of former president Atta Mills no probe has been conducted to find the actual cause of his death. This has made some persons to accuse his successor Mr. John Dramani Mahamah for failing to probe the cause of death of the late president.

The National Democratic Congress [NDC] was at the time of the demise of the late president in a hurry to hold elections to hang on to power so they never felt necessary to investigate the late president’s death.
Ghanaians in a 2016 elections gave Nana Akufo Addo the mandate with one hope that he would investigate the cause of death of late President Atta Mills. Ever since it has been very difficult to ask the former president Mr. Mahama to institute investigations into the death of his predecessor and President Akufo Addo has also failed to institute commission of enquiry into the death of  late Atta Mills.
Everyone knows that on July 24, 2012, the news media reported the death of the late president John Evans Atta Mills. But what actually caused the untimely death of the late president continue to remain a secret which should not be.

From speculations reviewed in the media, no one seems to know what exactly caused the death of Prof. Atta Mills. While the former president John Mahama is still not willing to help find out the cause of death of his predecessor, the incumbent president Nana Akufo Addo is also not willing to tell the nation what happened as some people keep on saying, “NO NEED TO INVESTIGATE ATTA MILLS DEATH.”
Former president John Mahama and his NDC government should be accused because nine years after the death of the late professor, no investigations were conducted to establish the circumstances that led to his death.
Since no commission of enquiry has established the cause of Atta Mills demise, for the past nine years, media practitioners, politicians, and ordinary persons are finding it necessary reviewing speculations the late president died through a foul means.

If other heads of states in other countries were able to establish the true cause of death of their predecessors through commissions of inquiry, the former president John Mahama and his NDC government could have emulate their classic example in finding out the true cause of Atta Mills.
Again, the claims by Mr. Cadman Mills that his brother Atta Mills slipped, fell and bled to death  still demands an answer to the question as to what caused the slipping, where did he slip and all, where were his aids, body guards who’s information could help a commission of inquiry to establish the cause of the late president’s death.

Former NDC  deputy general secretary Koku Anyidohu’s denial that the late president was not poisoned, transported in his car booth to the hospital but was transported in an ambulance with a motor cades, tells everyone that Koku Anyidohu has some sensitive information that Ghanaians do not have and must be made to provide that information to a commission of inquiry.

When an ordinary person dies from circumstances unknown to his death, an autopsy or postmortem should be conducted to establish the true cause of death. Even when a suspected criminal dies in a prison an inquest-judicial investigation is conducted to establish the circumstances that led to his death how much more of a then sitting president who was successfully elected by the people.

It is a big shame for the former president John Dramani Mahama and his NDC government to have failed to conduct investigations into the cause of Atta Mills death and it is also a big shame for Nana Akufo Addo to show no interest in establishing the cause of Atta Mills death and we must all bow our heads in shame.
Just as Professor Atta Mills had died shockingly whiles serving a term of office as president of Ghana, the same way some few heads of state shockingly died and their cause of death were established by a national commission of inquiry.

So what prevented former president John Mahama from constituting a national commission of inquiry to thoroughly probe Professor Atta Mills death?
Yes several presidents have died shockingly to their citizens only for the circumstance that surrounded their death to be established by a national commission of inquiry of which the late president of Malawi Mr. Bingu wa Mutharika was a critical example.

According to the African Review magazine of March 15, 2013, Malawi President Joyce Banda received a report from a commission of inquiry which investigated circumstances that surrounded the death of her predecessor Bingu wa Mutharika.

Mr. Mutharika died on April 5, 2012 after suffering a cardiac arrest and the events surrounding his death and the succession stunned Malawians and the world.

The 105 page report summarized what took place during Mr. Mutharika’s illness and death and was the genesis of the activities that led to the arrest of 11 politicians on treason charges.
The eleven all former cabinet ministers and government officials including the late Mutharika’s younger brother, Peter were implicated in number of activities ranging from keeping secret the death of the president, to trying to circumvent the constitution to stop the then vice president Joyce Banda from ascending to power.

As to what caused the death of former president of Venezuela Hugo Chavez, the New York Times of December 10, 2012 stated that, Mr. Hugo Chavez, a 58 fiery leftist who used Venezuela’s oil riches to steer the country towards his personalized vision of socialists revolution announced that on examination in Cuba found “a malignant cancer cells that required immediate surgery.” He later lost the fight against cancer.
What killed former North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il and the one time longest president of Togo Gnassingbe Eyadema are now common knowledge. Kim Jong-Il died of a suspected heart attack on December 17, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. while travelling by train to an area outside Pyongyang.

On February , 2005, Gnassingbe Eyadema died in a plane 250 kilometers south of TUNIS, Tunisia “as he was being evacuated for emergency treatment abroad” according to a government statement where officials said that the cause of death was a heart attack.

About the circumstance that led to the death of the late former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, his successor Mr. Mahmoud Abbas gave a permission for exhumation of the remains after a Swizz institute reported finding elevated traces of a radioactive substance on the late leader’s belongings.
The findings by the Switzerland’s Institute of radioactive Radiation Physics were inconclusive but Columbian Broadcasting Systems [CBS] radio news reported that they reviewed speculation among Palestinians that Arafat was poisoned.

The legendary Palestinian leader died November 11, 2004 in a French Military Hospital a month after feeling violently ill at his government compound in West Bank town of Ramallah.
Therefore having established these facts about circumstances that led to the demise of some former heads of state, the mandate now lies with former president John Mahama and president Akufo Addo to constitute a national commission of inquiry to investigate the cause of the late President Atta Mills death to put the records right.

Failure to investigate the true cause of Atta Mills death by former president John Mahama and president Nana Akufo Addo will never bring peace as it has indicated that it is never going to die down in the coming years unless investigated with the same question being asked every day, “WHAT KILLED ATTA MILLS?”
