Eric Amofa tipped to win Asante Akyem South NPP Primaries Over Obuor, incumbent MP

Unlike the 2020 parliamentary primary contest which was a two-horse race between the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Kwaku Asante Boateng and the new entrant Bice Obuor Osei Kuffour, the 2024 contest seems very different. The Political atmosphere this time round seems to have been shifted from the two supposed heavy weights, Asante Boateng and Obuor. The spotlight is now visible on one Eric Amofa, who also contested the primaries in 2020 but lost to the incumbent MP.
Mr. Amofa, a businessman and promoter of quality education in the Constituency is said to have endeared himself so well to the admiration of the people who have now developed a high level of confidence and trust in him to lead the party into victory.
Apart from his humility and respect for all people, his style of campaign which gears towards uniting the party ahead of the December 7 general election, is said to be his strongest weapon or element of surprise to outwitting his opponents. He is promising to hold a unity conference within the first one month if he emerges the winner. Eric Amofa largely remains very unassuming, very unpredictable like a thick heavy smoke beneath a heap of sawdust. He seems very solid on the ground, touching lives and impacting the communities and the people.
Mr. Eric Amofa, who is the Managing Director of Safare Tissues brand is helping several brilliant but needy students to pursue their education through his EKAJ Educational Fund, which was established with a seed capital of GhC100,000. The Fund is currently offering scholarships to many students to pursue tertiary education.
Last year, he distributed over 5,000 exercise books to all the 11 senior high schools in the Asante Akyem South, donated motorbikes to the NPP constituency office, distributed rice, cooking oil and many other supports to all polling station and constituency executives.
Even though, the incumbent MP, Kwaku Asante Boateng and Obuor were expected to have their noses in front in this campaigning period, they keep wabbling in the mud due to their style of campaign.
Both aspirants are at each other’s throat with visible signs of hatred and anger, insults upon insults, accusations upon accusations, name callings and character assassinations.
Whiles Obuor and his team are attacking the MP for alleged non-performance, abuse of incumbency and lack of vision, the MP and his team are also tagging Obuor as a pathological liar, arrogant, desperate and deceitful character.
The Kwaku Asante Boateng’s campaign team would stop at nothing to scrutinizing, punching holes, exposing, rubbishing or tagging every single campaign message Obuor espouse as “lies”. They expose Obuor for making numerous frivolous and unrealistic promises to influence delegates for votes. Similarly, Obuor’s campaign team is also fired up in trying to expose the MP over every single developmental project he has credited to himself. According to Obuor’s team, all those projects were initiated and funded by the Nana Addo’s government through the Asante Akyem South Municipal Assembly, and did not therefore see why the MP should take credit for them.
The two aspirants also keep attacking each other over who has used his office to create more employment opportunities for the youth of the area. Obuor is the Managing Director of GhanaPost and the MP is Deputy Minister for Railways Development.
Lawyer Kwaku Asante Boateng has had three terms already in parliament and still seeking another term. But the battle seems quite tougher than usual. The people in the constituency are crying for change and the mantle is likely to fall on Eric Amofa since majority of the people believe that it would be a big disservice for the constituency if Obuor should abandon his position as the MD of the GhanaPost.
