Corruption Costing Ghana Over $1 Billion Annually — GLOMEF CEO Calls for National Uprising Against Graft

Mr. Raphael Godlove Ahenu, CEO of the Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF), has issued a clarion call for Ghanaians to rise with “unyielding resolve” against the worsening plague of corruption, which he describes as “more destructive than COVID-19.”

In a passionate statement on his Facebook wall ahead of a nationwide broadcast, the renowned anti-corruption campaigner, environmentalist, and gender advocate lamented that corruption continues to rob Ghana of vital development, costing the country nearly $1 billion annually.

“The scourge of corruption is not just a moral failure - it is a bleeding wound on Ghana’s future. It is time for a national awakening. Corruption is killing us silently. If COVID-19 took lives, corruption is taking our livelihoods, our hopes, and our future,” Mr. Ahenu charged.

 

He called on citizens from all walks of life - youth, civil society, religious leaders, media, and policymakers - to unite in a renewed national crusade to tackle the graft head-on.

Mr. Ahenu will appear on Dadi FM and BRYTV this Thursday in Accra for a special edition panel discussion exploring practical solutions to corruption in Ghana. The conversation, which starts at 8:00am and ends at 10:00am, is expected to shed light on systemic challenges, expose loopholes, and propose bold reforms to restore integrity to public service.

“This is not a fight for a few; it is a fight for our survival as a nation,” Mr. Ahenu added, urging Ghanaians to tune in, speak up, and get involved.

As the country prepares for another electoral cycle and contends with economic pressures, Mr. Ahenu believes the time to act is now.
