Ghana Mourns National Heroes Lost in Tragic Helicopter Crash - Video

Ghana is in mourning following the devastating military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region that claimed the lives of eight distinguished citizens — a loss that has shaken the nation to its core.

The crash, which occurred on Wednesday, took the lives of two Cabinet Ministers, senior national security personnel, a political leader, and members of the Ghana Armed Forces. The victims, all dedicated patriots, were on a mission of service to the Republic.

The Nation’s Loss

The eight Ghanaians who perished are:

  • Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence

  • Hon Dr Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation

  • Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

  • Samuel Aboagye, former Parliamentary Candidate

  • Samuel Sarpong, National First Vice Chairman

  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Pilot

  • Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, Co-pilot

  • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Flight Technician

These men were not only public servants, officers, and leaders — they were fathers, husbands, sons, and above all, proud Ghanaians who gave their lives in pursuit of the nation’s progress and security.

A Tragedy That Unites a Nation

This incident is more than a moment of grief — it is a national tragedy that reminds us of the weight of public service and the risks borne by those who lead and protect us.

From every corner of the nation, Ghanaians stand united in sorrow. In homes, schools, churches, mosques, offices, and military barracks, flags fly at half-mast as a symbol of shared grief and solemn remembrance.

President John Dramani Mahama and the Government of Ghana have received an outpouring of condolences from all walks of life — reflecting the collective heartache of a grateful nation.

Honouring Their Legacy

As we mourn, we must also reflect on the values these patriots stood for: peace, service, discipline, and a deep love for country. Whether in the Defence Ministry, the Environmental Sector, or the cockpit of an aircraft, they worked to uphold Ghana’s dignity and advance her future.

Let us, as a people, resolve to honour their memory by reinforcing our support for the Ghana Armed Forces, redoubling efforts to protect our environment, and standing together for the security, unity, and prosperity of the Republic.

Ghana may have lost eight of her finest, but their legacy will live on — not just in the annals of history, but in every act of service that strengthens the foundations of our nation.

May their souls rest in perfect peace. Ghana remembers. Ghana stands united.
