Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health – Bono Chapter Holds 2025 First General Meeting

The Bono Chapter of the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health has held its general meeting for the first half of 2025, highlighting key activities and setting the tone for an impactful year ahead. The meeting, chaired by Mr. Raphael Godlove Ahenu, CEO of Global Media Foundation, brought together members of the Coalition to reflect on past challenges and plan strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare advocacy and service delivery in the region.

As part of its agenda, the Coalition is planning a courtesy visit to officially welcome the new Regional Health Director, Dr Osei Kuffour Afreh and the Bono Regional Minister, Mr. Joseph Addae Akwaboa Esq towards deepening stakeholder collaboration and engagement in the health sector.

One of the major highlights of the meeting was the announcement of a regional fundraising initiative to support the operations of the Coalition. This effort is aimed at enhancing the Coalition’s ability to respond to pressing health challenges including non-communicable diseases, maternal mortality, and mental health. A committee set up to address these thematic areas could not fully implement its mandate in the past year due to the absence of clearly defined terms of reference.

To address this gap, the meeting endorsed the activation of a Regional Advocacy Committee with a clear mandate to identify key advocacy issues, develop comprehensive strategies, and lead the charge in health-related advocacy across the Bono Region.

Also discussed was the GAVI-CSO project, which has enrolled 100 civil society organisations nationwide. Out of 15 member organisations in Bono Region, only five have been selected to participate in this vital immunisation and health systems strengthening initiative.

In line with its commitment to transparency and accountability, the Coalition announced the organisation of its Annual Bono Regional Health Accountability Summit. This event, a flagship programme of the Coalition, seeks to promote community participation and improve the quality of healthcare delivery in the region.

During the meeting, beneficiary organisations of the GAVI project presented reports on various health initiatives and collaborative efforts in their various operational areas. In his closing remarks, Mr. Raphael  Ahenu urged all members to work collaboratively and ensure that the Coalition becomes more vibrant, efficient, and impactful in discharging its responsibilities.

The Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health continues to play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between communities and health authorities, amplifying the voices of the underserved, and contributing to the achievement of national health goals.
