The Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF) has extended its heartfelt condolences to His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and the entire Ashanti Kingdom following the passing of the revered Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
In its statement in Sunyani, signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Raphael Godlove Ahenu, GLOMEF described the late Asantehemaa as “a beacon of wisdom, compassion, and cultural strength whose legacy will forever illuminate the history of Ghana.” The statement underscored her lifelong dedication to peace, unity, and the preservation of Ashanti culture. GLOMEF added, “The passing of the Asantehemaa is not only a great loss to Asanteman but to the whole nation. Her role in upholding our cherished cultural heritage will be remembered and celebrated for generations. We stand with His Majesty and the royal family in grief and pray for God’s comfort in this period of mourning.”
As the Kingdom prepares for the solemn funeral rites of the Queen Mother between September 14 and 18, and a ban on other funerals takes effect to preserve these sacred days, GLOMEF CEO also urged all Ghanaians to honour her memory by upholding peace, unity, and respect for our traditional institutions.
Meanwhile, the Asantehemaa holds a unique and enduring place in Ashanti tradition. As Queen Mother, she serves as co-ruler alongside the Asantehene, forming the dual leadership at the apex of traditional governance . Her authority is deeply rooted in Akan matrilineal customs, where she plays a central role in legitimizing succession and safeguarding royal lineage. She holds the power to nominate the Asantehene, especially upon a vacancy, and has the moral and spiritual authority to advise or even depose the king when necessary.
