The Bono Regional Police Command has cautioned Muslim youth in Sampa, Jaman North District, to desist from carrying weapons or engaging in acts that could threaten the fragile peace in the area.
Led by the Deputy Regional Commander, ACP Andrews George Kumah, a police team visited various mosques in Sampa on Friday to engage worshippers during Jummah prayers, urging them to promote peace, tolerance, and mutual respect among all residents.
The visit follows recent violent clashes in Sampa that led to the imposition of a curfew by the government to restore calm. The conflict, which reportedly stemmed from long-standing chieftaincy and community tensions, disrupted daily life, forcing the temporary closure of shops and schools, and creating an atmosphere of fear and mistrust.
During the engagement, ACP Kumah advised the youth to resist any temptation to engage in violence or carry offensive weapons, warning that anyone found with a weapon will be arrested and prosecuted. He emphasized that the police are in Sampa to protect lives and property, not to intimidate residents.
“We are not your enemies; we are here to serve and protect you. Let’s work together to sustain peace so everyone can go about their normal activities without fear,” ACP Kumah told the congregation.
He further encouraged residents to cooperate with the police by sharing credible information that can help maintain law and order in the area.
The Bono Regional Police Command also appealed to community leaders and clerics to use their influence to promote dialogue and peace, stressing that sustainable development can only thrive in a peaceful environment.
The Chief Imam's representative, Alhaji Adams Gado Armstrong expressed gratitude to the Police for the engagement and requested periodic visits until peace and order are maintained in Sampa.
As calm gradually returns to Sampa, the police have assured the public that security remains a top priority and that measures are in place to prevent any recurrence of violence.
