Sunyani Fire: Over GHS600,000 Worth of Properties Lost as Sub-Chief and Wife Perish in Blaze

More than GHS600,000 worth of properties have been destroyed in the tragic fire outbreak that claimed the lives of a 65-year-old sub-chief, Nana Siribour Ampofo II and his wife, Grace Yaa Ampofo, at Asuakwa, near New-Dormaa in the Sunyani Municipality on Sunday night.

The losses, which include fridges, television sets, sound systems, sofas, beds and mattresses, a Toyota Highlander, a pickup vehicle, dresses, and other personal belongings, exclude the entire building that was completely razed down.

According to the Sunyani Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Abdulai Mansuru, a preliminary assessment revealed that as many as 11 bedrooms were badly affected by the inferno.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with WatchGhana.Com, Mr. Mansuru disclosed that it took personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service about four hours to bring the blaze under total control.

“It was a massive fire. By the time the fire officers managed to contain it, the whole structure and everything inside were already gone,” he said.

It would be recalled that the late Nana Siribour Ampofo II and his wife, Grace Yaa Ampoo, died in their room when the raging fire swept through their residence around 11:00pm on October 19, 2025.

Their charred bodies were later recovered and deposited at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital mortuary by the Ghana Police Service.

Meanwhile, the Bono Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the incident in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service to determine the actual cause of the fire.
