The Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area, Osaagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II through his Anti-Galamsey Taskforce has arrested four (4) persons including a minor for carrying out illegal mining activity at a forest in Akontanim, a rural community near Wamfie in the Bono Region.

The suspects; Moses Ayando 30, Joseph Akuwaaya 32 and John Akanboei 34 and Kwaku Atingani 16, were arrested by the Taskforce on Wednesday 22nd October, 2025 and were quickly arraigned before the Wamfie District Magistrate Court.

Three of the suspects have been remanded into police custody by the court presided over by H/W Eugene Obeng Ntim whilst the minor, Kwaku Atingani, 16, was granted bail to the tune of 50,000 Ghana Cedis with one surety.

According to a statement issued and signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Bono Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the suspects are to re-appear in court on 4th November 2025.

The statement indicated that the suspects were mining without license. Their mining equipment and other operational tools including motorbikes and aboboyaa were seized from the suspects.

“The Bono Regional Police Command, by this release, is cautioning all persons engaged in illegal mining activities within the region to advise themselves or risk being arrested, investigated, and prosecuted”.

Last month, the Dormaahene, Osaagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II personally led a targeted operation against illegal mining, to protect the environment and stool lands under his jurisdiction.
The King, together with his Anti-Galamsey Task Force and subchiefs, stormed some galamsey hotspots in Dormaa-Akwamu, Akontanim and Kobedi.
The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals suspected to be involved in the illegal mining activities and destroyed their mining equipment including seven water pumping machines.
