Sunyani Mechanic Arrested Over Murder of Two Timber Guards in Dormaa Forest Attack

A 45-year-old motor mechanic, identified as Bashiru Kinda, has been arrested by the Bono Regional Police Command in connection with the gruesome murder of two security guards working with ADRAS Timber Concession at Mpamso forest, near Nsuhia in the Dormaa Central Municipality.

The attack, which took place on October 26, 2025, saw a group of more than 200 armed illegal chainsaw operators storm the timber concession, killing two guards and setting a company vehicle ablaze.

The deceased, Sani Aliyu, 34, and Ibrahim Musa, 35, were on duty when the mob launched their violent assault. Another guard, Ibrahim Issah, who narrowly escaped, reported the incident to the police.

“They were wielding guns and machetes — there were too many of them. We ran for our lives,” Issah recounted in his statement to the police.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the arrest of the suspect followed credible intelligence gathered by investigators.

“The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested suspect Bashiru Kinda, aged 45, a motor mechanic, in connection with the murder of two ADRAS timber concession guards and the burning of a vehicle at Mpamso forest near Nsuhia,” the statement read.

During a search of the suspect’s room, the police retrieved: One Automatic Bruni model 96 9mm K pistol loaded with three rounds of 7.65mm ammunition, Four mobile phones, Machetes, Talismans and other amulets believed to be used for protection during illegal activities.

The suspect is currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other accomplices.

Police say efforts are ongoing to track down members of the gang responsible for the killing and destruction of property.

A Toyota pickup truck belonging to the timber company, with registration number GT 3079-17, was found completely burnt at the scene.

The Bono Regional Command has assured the public that it is working tirelessly to bring all perpetrators of the heinous crime to justice and restore safety to forest reserves threatened by illegal logging.

“The Command will not relent in pursuing all those involved in this brutal act. The fight against illegal chainsaw operations and forest crimes will continue without fear or favor,” the police PRO stated.
