The Bono Regional Police Command has dismissed reports of an alleged violent robbery incident on the Berekum–Drobo highway, describing a viral video circulating on social media as false and misleading. The Command says preliminary investigations conducted across the region and nationwide reveal that no such robbery occurred on November 18, 2025.
In an official statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Police said checks at all police stations within the Bono Region, as well as further verification with other Police jurisdictions and the Ghana Armed Forces, found no evidence to support the claims in the circulating video.
According to the statement, the Cyber Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale effort to track down the individuals behind the publication and circulation of the false video. The culprits, once identified, will be arrested and prosecuted for causing fear and panic, a serious offence under Ghanaian law.
“We would like to urge anyone with credible information regarding the alleged incident to report to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing inquiries,” the statement said.
Chief Inspector Akeelah further cautioned the public to desist from sharing unverified news, especially content capable of triggering panic, insecurity, or unnecessary tension among residents and commuters.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and order, assuring the public that the Berekum–Drobo stretch remains safe and that the Police will continue to monitor and respond swiftly to any emerging threats.
